Lefty F-100 I got in 1981, double humbuckers, great sounding guitar. Lefty George Fullerton model I got in October 2004 for my 50th birthday, it's a copy of a 1957 Strat but with a 5 position switch. My favorite Strat, gotta love G&L's. The fact that I grew up in mid 60's in Placentia, CA right next to Fullerton where the original Fender factory was and the G&L factory is right down the road from there on Fender Ave. might have something to do with it.

@@RobertBakerGuitar George Fullerton and Leo Fender (in their CLF Research era) also originated Music Man guitars, including the bridge design and the 4+2 headstock, after the former Fender employs who started it as an amp company decided they wanted to get into guitars. Not without reason were they so scared of Leo Fender. When CBS bought the Fender company, they gave him a real bad contract, stating that for ten years Leo couldn't start or even help any other git-/amp-company! A lot of '50s to mid '60s innovations came from Leo Fender. Most of the tone controls in our modern amps, even HiFi, come from him. Not sure he invented all, but he was the first in America to implement that all. 🚀🏴☠️🎸

Robert - you completely missed the point of the PTB circuit. It's not meant to be played on "10" - you start on "5" and dial them in to the tone you want (push or cut the bass and treble). You can get everything from vintage Strat tones to P90s and a lot of really usable tones in between. As you get into the larger MFD pickups, the tone changes are more dramatic. This was the genius of Leo Fender.

i have a fretless authentic 2007 butterscotch blonde usa comanche and i also have a replacement neck with stainless steel frets. the trem, the wood, the construction, and the pickups are fantastic. the two things i did was 1.shielding it with aluminium tape and 2.changing the circuit to a master volume (without the stock treble bleed capacitor) and i also changed the to 2 treble cut tone controls. one for the neck and one for the hotter bridge pickup. the middle pickup has no tone control. also the value of the two different capacitors is fine tuned for each pickup. i used lower capacitance values from 0.22, so the tone controls only cut a smaller amount of treble. just enough for making the high gain sounds smooth but never muddy. i also got rid of the mini switch, because it gets in the way of my fingers and once it caught my pinky between the knob and the switch. the guitar is built like a tank. the neck pocket and the trem inserts are superior to any other guitar in any price range. also the wood grade is closer to fender custom shop and has nothing to do with mass produced fenders. this does not mean that fenders or other stratocaster copies are not good. but G&L is certainly better made in its price range, compared to anything else i have seen and i dont say it lightly. i have played innumerable guitars in 43 years, especially pricey or, custom or, original vintage models and only in the 5k and up of very few custom build makers there is a neck pocket and a sturdy bridge like that. thanx for the demo.

I have an HSS Chapman ML1 that just had a 3 way toggle stock. Slapped some Duncans in there, and added a toggle just like that, but for the middle pup. Basically wired it up as a 2 pickup axe and then bring in the middle pup with the toggle for in between tones, or all 3 pups at once in the middle position.

In Australia they are rare as rocking horse shit so I ordered mine from USA. I really wanted a blueburst swap ash with maple neck in a Comanche but all I could find was a pre ‘96 legacy which I absolutely love. I cannot date the guitar exactly other than it has the old 3 screw neck plate which they stopped using in ‘96 so my guitar is from ‘96 or older. Only disappointment after ordering online is it is very heavy but I’m only a bedroom player so it’s not the end of the world for me. They are also pleked before shipping so they feel great right out of the box 🤘🏻

I’m also a big fan of the G&L’s with the 3 bolt necks. Just feel like they have that little extra bit of mojo. Overall, haven’t ever seen a subpar G&L out in the wild. Enjoy your axe, mate 😎⚡️🎸

I have a Legacy Special in the same honey burst as the one you’re playing and it’s awesome! As others have mentioned, G&L has all of the things Leo wanted to change about the Strat and Tele, implemented into these guitars. They rock!

sometimes you're going to play some really dark amps or your guitar ends up being a little too dark. the bass tone does wonders in these cases. The guitar i'm playing in my pfp is a G&L legacy. my main guitar. just love it xD

Bass players have known about that pickup coil configuration for literally 7 decades. The Precision bass was groundbreaking, earthshaking, and unsurpassed. I don't understand why guitarists haven't adopted the Zs in massive numbers.

I bought a Comanche back in 1999 and it was the most expensive guitar I ever bought at the time. I always like the strat body but single coil made it sound weak but a humbucker or P90 was always too much and the Z pickups were a perfect in between that makes this the Ultimate Stratocaster. Sadly my Comanche was lost in a house fire back in 2004 but I loved it and I'm glad that it has survived after all these years!

If you love Gibsons, buy Heritage, no comparison, and if Fender is your thing, then G&L, Yamaha, or Ibanez, these are better companies!

Or just buy Navigator for both. They blow both Gibson/Fender and G&L/Heritage out of the water and you don't have to live with the "almost knockoff so they don't get sued" looks.

One of the secrets behind Purple Rain: Wendy played the famous 4 chords with her Rickenbacher330, and she had replaced the pickups with G&L pickups, maybe the big ones from the ASAT

Try out the G&L Strat (AKA the Legacy). Also, the S-500 (same pickup switching as the Comanche) with straight MFD pickups. If you like Tele’s, try the ASAT Classic.
@skizziks1

The S-500 would be a better direct comparison, but it's difficult to compare a new guitar with a '63 vintage. BTW... I'm a huge fan of G&L. I'm also intruiged by the fact that George Fullerton and Leo Fender got back together to make this happen... In Fender's original workshop... on "Fender" Avenue in "Fullerton" California" 🤯

ASAT Special is a very unique guitar. The jumbo MFD pickups are better, IMO, than the "normal" MFD pickups. Definitely an evolution of the telecaster - YMMV. The MFD pickups are more "metallic" than stock Strat pickups, but they do stand out in a mix better. So, if you're primarily a home player then a Strat (or a G&L Legacy) may be a better choice. If you play in a band, then seriously consider a G&L with MFD pickups.

Try any G&L with the “soap bar” picks (e.g. ASAT Special). My 1981 G&L SC-2 is probably the best guitar I own - it’s essentially an ASAT Special but has a Mustang style body with a dual-fulcrum temolo. Recent G&L’s tend to have larger (wider nut, larger radius, deeper profile) necks, I tend to prefer the slimmer 80’s necks which are similar to the early 60’s Fender profile, but the pick ups have remained faithful to Leo era G&L. After trying recent models I think I’m firmly a “Leo-era” G&L fan for the difference in necks, but the overall quality and sounds are just as good as ever.

Love my G&L's. I have a Commanche I bought about 6 years ago and an older USA made ASAT Bluesboy (tele style with a humbucker and the bridge single MFD pickup...it's one of my best playing and sounding guitars)

I love my G&Ls (have 3 of em ASAT Special, ASAT Classic Semi-Hollow and Legacy) they just do something slightly different to my Fenders, my Mid 90’s Legacy is my favourite S-type for a while now, though i note i did replace the standard MFD pickups with some Fralins. I think i heard recently they might finally be offering the commanche in a Lefty too !
