Well done on going the extra 1.609km and shooting, editing and uploading in 4k. Looks absolutely awesome. Those alps are AMAZING! For the record, I'll be keeping my F3HR until Garmin release a 4G Fenix, at which point I'd pay any amount to have - just imagine running, uploading to live tracking, SOS etc. all with just your watch.

I started using Garmin back when you published how to use a 305 for swimming. Over the last few years I feel Garmin is really letting down advanced users. I mean Garmin connect is fairly useless unless, in the past you could schedule a 6 month training schedule for tri calendar easy. Now it is almost impossible to schedule more then a handful of workouts since drag and drop was removed. Also it seems like Garmin breadcrumbs features in a way that makes it so you would need to replace you units every year to keep up. It would be nice to have software updates that added features rather than cause issues with your device.

These prices are insane! I guess I'm going to wait for next year's Suuntos and hopefully, their watches are updated with onboard music. If the Vivoactive3 Music didn't have that horrendously glossy bezel, I'd own it right now.

It’s a great watch but is hampered by a poor battery if you have features turned on. One simple software improvement would be to have an option to have wrist HR activated when you start an activity - and stop once you’ve stopped the activity.

Garmin has priced me out of their Fenix model. It's pretty ridiculous how much it costs. The original Garmin 3 is still selling for $400. It's a great product but at some point it just becomes too much. They are selling these things for the same price as a top end smart phone. SMH

I'm curious if the pulse Ox on the 5x plus would be useful for tracking asthma related blood O2 levels. Or maybe I'm just trying to justify the cost of the watch.
@cedricjamesjr1
4 жыл бұрын
I have asthma and the Fenix 5x plus. I have traveled to many different elevations across the states and the world tracking the pulse ox and I for the most part don't have any severe dips or issues with the percentages I get. I was recently in Slovakia which is slightly over 1000 feet higher than what I'm used to and it only dipped 4% from my usual read. When I was having constriction in my lungs I think it dipped down to 86% which is really low... I think it is a good use for what you seek as long as you know that there are a lot of variables that go with asthma and just as many with your blood oxygen levels. The Fenix 5x plus is my very first actual Garmin watch other than the two Foretrex I have owned if you would like to call those watches. One thing I know is that people from what I've seen have bad reads at times but they just didn't read how to calibrate it.... This watch is a great tool for everything I do. I just bought my son the Fenix 5x new for $400 and that was a great deal. I ended up paying about $1200 for mine because I added the titanium band. I would say yeah it is expensive but then again so is a Rolex difference being The Garmin had so many uses compared to a watch that cost more than $20,000 dollars. I wish it were cheaper but I absolutely love mine compared to anything else. I hope this helps.

I think the reason Garmin calls it plus and not Fenix 6 is the price. With an introduction of an F6 watch I think people would react even worse to the new price as hey would expect it to be about the same as the mode it replaces. However, just like smartphone makers have started doing they are adding an "even better" option on top of the F5 to justify the price hike.

The online course creator (on Garmin.com) works for hiking, and should show some hiking trails I believe. However, I think the round-trip routing piece on the unit itself was limited to on-road bits for saving space.

Hello Ray and sorry for my bad English (google translate). I would like to ask a question about 2 versions of Fenix 5 Plus (Sapphire, Black with Black Band & Sapphire, Titanium with Solar Flare Orange Band). What are their main differences apart from appearance and weight? What material is more resistant to hits and scratches? I know that in black color (stainless steel) the scratches appear more easily. But on the other hand titanium is scratch easier. What is ultimately true? He deserves titanium except appearance and less weight? Thanks in advance.

The walking activity on the Garmin Fenix 5x plus seems be just a timer. I forgot to stop the walking activity when I reached home and it kept counting as if I'm still walking. That's not how I expected it to work. Can you explain what it would do that please?
@jamesgreenwood4412
5 жыл бұрын
You need to turn on Auto-pause in the activity settings. Also if you were still walking around the house then that's still counting as a walking activity. It doesn't know where you live. I think - but can't verify right now - that there is also an auto-end activity when it detects no movement etc after a certain amount of time. Either way Auto-pause is your best friend for the times you forget to end the activity and you have actually stopped moving.
@jamesgreenwood4412

You also normally get a vibration + sound alert (you can customise) when you have auto-pause on. This can be a good way to remind yourself to end the activity if you have genuinely stopped.

It's funny, everyone predicted the death of Garmin when Apple introduced the first watch. Since then, Garmin has surpassed Fitbit in smartwatches and sold more watches than ever before (in fact, specifically because of the Fenix series). A rising tide lifts all boats and that.

DC Rainmaker I personally think Apple has held back with their tech. That said there are a number of aspects of the Apple Watch that beat the fenix 1 - you can swim and the hr sensor actually works 2 - significant features since the first version that the fenix has only recently got (maps/music/pay) but you still no canned responses for WhatsApp notifications 3 - recently gsm chipset integration so you can leave the phone at home 4 - a user experience on a high resolution screen that doesn’t look like a Nintendo game boy. One wanders why the fenix is popular at all - potentially the styling which suunto made popular years ago, big bezels seemed to have made a number of watch manufacturers a ton of cash.
@neilk22
6 жыл бұрын
Doctor Prepper I don’t imply that it’s all better, but for the price the user experience on the vivoactive is way more up to date than the fenix with touch screen flows, it also has better integration with your mobile phone with canned responses for instant messaging. As a multi sport watch platform is does 90% of what most athletes need. Maps and a oxygen sensor are total gimmicks for this form factor.

I share the same annoyances, thus i still have my trusty Fenix 3 which i use for multisport and then the apple watch as my daily gym/step counter/notification/health watch. if i had to choose one, the apple watch would stay, it just provides too many features in general outside of my fitness regime that id miss if i went with the Fenix. My Fenix has been super reliable as a rugged outright sports tracking device - but truth be told my forerunner 305 (circa 2008/2009) pretty much does everything for me that the Fenix does.
