Yes, the BC05R isn't that impressive as a taillight especially compared to their headlights. They have a version 2 of the taillight now, but it doesn't seem like much of an improvement. I'd recommend something like the Planet Bike Rojo 100 or the Magicshine Seemee 180 if you want a brighter but affordable taillight.

@@TheSweetCyclists ty, definitely, i mean flashlights are their bread and butter so 26r was right up Fenix's alley, but taillights were a new ball game and they prob. need to still learn a lot. Anyhow i would go for more bang for the buck then buget, really liked the V series and the cobber, but i feel they are double or triple the price for the lumens you get with Seemee and that plastic usb arm seems weak. At first i was going for the 70lumen blinder R70 but that seems not enough. I'm more of a daytime rider, researching as i go along. Bullet 200 is still in my short list cause i wouldn't really spend 150euro on a taillight.

@@arncj18 Good points. You should consider Moon Sport (moon-sport.com/product-category/rear-light/) as well - we are working on a review for one of their new Helix taillights and it has a very bright 450 lumen option coming out soon for $80 USD.

You tighten the light by using the next bar on the rubber strap.

Hi, I am looking for a bike rear light that has the accessory for mounting on the saddlebag. I saw that the Fenix bc05r has the clip for mounting on the saddlebag but, in my opinion, the light is not very powerful. I would like something of at least 100 lumens, better if more powerful. Thanks

Good question. Yes the BC05R isn't particularly bright so I'd recommend other taillights. The Lupine Rotlicht (thesweetcyclists.com/lupine-rotlicht-max/) or Planet Bike Rojo 100 (thesweetcyclists.com/planet-bike-rojo-100/) are good options that include clips.

I appreciate these reviews, but in *a lot* of the close-up shots, you're closer than the lens can focus, so it's just blurry. It's really frustrating because I badly want to see the details of the weatherproofing around the USB ports, the attachment mechanisms, etc... (which, to your credit, you seem to have a good instinct about), but when I get to the sections of the videos with the important shots it's just an out-of-focus blur. I think this happens in at least one or two other videos, but I'm not sure if I'm misremembering. Look into the minimum focus distance of your camera (or if it uses interchangeable lenses, of this lens) and practice keeping the subject at that point or further away. The impulse to bring it closer is very strong, and admittedly pretty natural, but with camera lenses it's just counterproductive.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm using a GoPro 7 for the video, and agree that some of closeups are out of focus. We've tried to avoid bringing it too close to the camera to avoid the focus issue, but some of the earlier videos have similar issues. If you want to see some specific closeups of the waterproofing, we can add photos to the full article on website (see description for link). Drop us an email through the website with what you'd like to see and we'd be happy to update the article to show them.

There aren't that many, but you should take a look at the Planet Bike Rojo 100 - kzitem.info/news/bejne/maJmp66hcqF2maA. It doesn't have fancy sensors but at 100 lumen output it is bright.

I have the Blackburn Mars 4.0. I love the light but I have had it many years and it has started to drain batteries very quickly. I want a similar or more powerful light and with the same type of mounting system. What light would fit my needs?

I'd recommend something brighter than the Fenix in this review. Something like the NiteRider Bullet 200 (great visibility, 200 lumen output) or Magicshine Seemee 180 (great price, 180 lumen, integrated ambient light and brake sensor) would be good options. We have reviews for both on the channel.

@@unogazzy84 I see. You should consider the Planet Bike Rojo - kzitem.info/news/bejne/maJmp66hcqF2maA. It has a bolt on mount and is well priced. If you need a taillight with even more theft proof design the Orb Droid lights are also a great option - .kzitem.info/news/bejne/t3iB2pqLnGukaI4.

This is great, thank you! Do you happen to know off-hand of other USB Type C lights for bikes?

We've reviewed a few other type-C lights: Fenix BC21R v2 headlight and the Planet Bike Rojo 100 taillight. I believe there are some other brands like Cylogite have USB Type-C connections as well. The bike market has been slow to adopt type-C.

Sorry to hear that. We've been using the BC05R for a long time now and haven't had an issue. I would try reaching out to Fenix to see if they can send you a replacement. If you can't, I'd recommend trying something a bit brighter like the Magicshine Seemee 100 which is only slightly more expensive but has more features and better side visibility.

Yes, there are a few on the market. The Fenix BC21R (kzitem.info/news/bejne/0aNorq1je5iCfmk) and Magicshine RN 1200 (kzitem.info/news/bejne/r6WDrnunqqNminY) are two USB-C headlights we've reviewed. USB-C is becoming more popular though, so it should become more common.
