As a newcomer to this truly amazing composer, I am completely won over by the combination of dazzling piano virrtuosity and huge compositional mastery and depth. How ever did I reach the age of 76 without ever hearing of such a major composer? !!!

I would like to express my sincere gratitude for uploading this video series. I would like to briefly describe my impressions. Piano Concerto No. 4 in C minor, Op. 115. Composed in 1809 and published in 1823. The orchestration is superb. Comments from an unknown composer from Okinawa JAPAN.

Ries provides an especially gracious introduction to this Concerto, which shows his original inspiration, albeit along with near quotes from his friend Beethoven, and Schumann (Oops. Which came first?) Anyway, Ries' Concerti are always delightful and rewarding.

Another fine work, although the theme of the last movement is rather unmemorable. But what a fine writer he is!

More Beethoven at 4:11 , not sure if it's the 2nd or 3rd concerto?

Figured it out, sounds like a part near the beginning of the first movement of Beethoven's 2nd piano concerto.

ries is an excellent composer and a joy to listen to with an intimate knowledge of the piano as a solo instrument - however the difference between certainly capable but lesser composers and masters such as beethoven is that there are no sweeping melodies or themes in the music to move the soul for the most part - the difference between talent and genius - as such relatively unknown composers such as ries have been underappreciated and neglected unjustly - but thankfully no longer...

The theme of the first movement is an inversion of the celebrated theme of Beethoven’s Third Concerto, first movement

Sure. Descending triads instead of ascending. Shocking plagiarism. I'm cancelling Ferdinand Reis as of now!
