Look at other example of MM. Panerin The bread man. He was invisible in the NYRangers series. Like Marner zooming around the perimeter, seeking the safety of an outlet rather than driving to the slot. MM is a Talented NHL hockey player. 1. He is a smallish player with no snot. 2. His AAV coming off would give us so much ability to shore up the D and G.

The wisest moves for MLSE will transpire as follows: Have Marner play out his contract and not resign him - it doesn't matter if they get nothing for him in a trade this year, his contract will be off the books, they would have paid him anyway. Players on their final year of expiring contracts play harder. Once Draisaitl is available end of next year they should put the best offer forward to acquire his superior PLAYOFFS services. The current highest paid player on the Leafs couldn't care less about winning in the playoffs - he's not going to risk injury, or sacrifice long term future pain to do whatever it takes to win, it also cuts into his down time back home in Arizona (chilling on the yacht with Bieber and his friends). 34 wouldn't sign for eight years because he wants to keep his options open, so four years is all he gave us. If the Leafs wimp out again in next years playoffs then get rid of Prima Donna Matthews and go after a player that will sacrifice his own well being to win. When McDavid comes available the following year it's incumbent on MLSE to bring him home - If Lebron can go home to Cleveland, McDavid can come home to Toronto - his career is finite, and too short. Who cares if Matthews scores 80 regular season goals. If he can't dominate in the playoffs we don't need him. He'll be more than happy to go play in La La land. Then take the 13.25M he's getting and use it to bring in McDavid for 15M. Of course those in charge of hockey operations only view 34 as a merchandise revenue generator for MLSE - they too don't care if the Leafs win in the playoffs - they'll still make their millions in salary, and don't have the balls, or are willing to follow through with what's best for building a playoff competitive team..Bowmanville Dave

We all know Marner has the tools to make a Con Smyth run in the playoffs.... the problem is: he won't. The guy who knew this before anyone was Mike Babcock... now you know why babs asked him to make the list... because he wanted to see if he had a guy with some balls who'd say no.

As it currently stands, in 2025-26, after Matthews and Nylander, the most expensive forward you have signed is David Kampf. Having Mitch Marner signed starts looking really good. It's not like Toronto didn't try getting tougher. Both Matthews and Tavares's hits/60 would be 3rd on Edmonton, 5th on Florida. But who was brought in to be Top-6 muscle? -->Tyler Bertuzzi. Now yes, Marner could of done more physically, but that was exactly what Bertuzzi was brought in for. And what did we get? A guy who threw 66% of the rate of hits as John Tavares. Was easily surpassed by Knies and didn't bring much more than Holmberg or Jarnkrok.

What is it exactly Nick is not going to do, , when in every episode he says "I'm not doing this again"? "Dangle" says the same on all of his pods. Are you guys quitting podcasting? Covering the leafs? It's certainly not bitching. It's these guys and folks like Seravalli that have mostly crafted the narrative that moving Marner is a need. It's not. If moving a top end talent in a trade you can't win because the media suggests it, or just to make a team look different and gain cap space is your barometer for success, then go back and watch the leafs circa 1968-Kadri to Col. You want more Barrie/Kerfoot? Cuz that's how you get more Barrie/Kerfoot. The only thing working against Marner is the timing of his deal. How much it was when signed and now the inconvenience of when it ends. And he has a full nmc. Even if trading him was the right move, and its not, the team can't afford the bad PR with the players of forcing a guy with full movement protection to waive. Especially in a market already held back by taxation and 2 competing teams in the Atlantic from Florida. And in a dressing room where by all accounts Mitch its loved. Blaming Mitch all of a sudden this offseason is just lazy. He literally leads the core group in every meaningful category in the playoffs since they've been there aside from goals. Did he struggle to drag a team on 1&1/2 ankles through a super tight 7gm series with AM34 out for half, Willy out for half, neither at full strength when they did play and Tavares 2 years into decline? Sure. Good luck finding a guy that can on his own. McDerpid would have been trade bait after 3 lackluster finals games in this market. I wonder if he knows you can just grit and snot if you want to win. Go and read about Yzerman's career, even on wiki about a young and gifted player who didn't refine his playoff game until a new coach, Scottie Bowman took over. A coaching change can make a difference. Maybe it doesn't in this case but I'd rather know than not. He's under contract. He's not a superstar you have to acquire. Mitch is 27. He's a bit undersized and smallish guys peek physically later. He's ENTERING his prime. He's about to start playing for a coach with no similarities to his last 5 seasons. If he's actually the problem and the cap space is the reason for the whole idea, then him and JT come off the books in a year. Giving up a 27yo 2x first team Allstar winger to free up cap space is a fireable and career ending offense. Hopefully Tre isn't prepped to set the franchise back like that. Teams tank for years to draft 100pt wingers. Yes, even 99pt ones. It's not something a team does if they're trying to win. With rare exceptions like Tkachuk/Huberdeau. But chucky forced the move to get to a tax free state. That's not a gm decision to make the team look different. The move is still to re sign him. The move is still to seek long term in the deal and the move is to do what you can to be playoff ready with the near 20 mill available this offseason and to go all in next year when the cap is up another 5mil and JT comes off the books.

People somehow forget that the Oilers have been swept by Colorado, Winnipeg (wtf?), Vegas and now they are saying they can come back against Florida? I thought they would make it four sweeps in the McDavid era. Say what you want about Leafs, they don’t get steamrolled in the playoffs by competitive teams. The FLA/TOR series was a lot closer than the 5 games showed as well. Just watch the highlights of the games and see how they lost because of bad goaltending performances by one goal pretty much every loss.

Mariner is too soft emotionally, he needs to go. We don't want him at 10,000,000 we don't want him at 13,000,000 and we don't even want him at league minimum, he can go win a cup in another market, just get him out of our locker room to make way for playoff style players!!! If Mitch gets *extended* I will literally quit watching the Leafs. I can handle him finishing out his contract if needed, but this shit salary handcuffed era needs to come to a close. We’re technically already operating at 40-50% of the cap that the Tax Free teams have considering our players are paying above 50% in taxes, and on top of that spending 50% of that cap on 4 forwards is legitimately stupid regardless of who the players are. The only way it could potentially makes sense is if it was split between 2 top tier Forwards, a true number 1 D man AND a Vezna potential Goalie.

I'm glad you two aren't anywhere close to the GM decisioning. Deciding to trade your most effective minute leader since he's been on the leafs, because you think you have exhausted your ability to make these 3 winners. lol your sensationalistic podcasting is lazy and brings very little to the table. you could research other options... but no you bang the drum and trade mitch trade mitch .... like somehow that's going to be the thing we need. If anyone of the core 5 needs to be traded it's 44 who is in the 60pt 25 min spot and isn't doing what montour appears to be able to do, or perhaps even what 37 could do if given the minutes ... it seems that when we give 37 the minutes, he plays way better in that role. how would a 37 with the best stats like he has shown when healthy, and 70+ points look and 22/2/20/weber/ and a good stay at home LD with 37 that we bring in... cap wise that's 3.8 m / 2m / 1.3m / 2.5m / .875m / 6m = 10.475m for your D-core and if you play 37 and Montour together perhaps you have a much better DCore getting rid of the ones who let teams score those critical game 7 goals 44 Tampa Nick Paul beats him to the spot, Boston Pastranak beats him to the front of the net by way of picking the puck up in the corner off a dump in. 78 twice before that gets walked ... I could go on... but really if the D can play their game Defensively or bring more offense to make up for their Defensive gaffs, then we are leaving the Division in the playoffs to play the Metro, not Boston / Florida or Tampa But you keep hammering the drum on 16 .. tradem' tradem'... Toronto Media Sensationalistic just gaslight us ... we aren't that gullible.
