To me, the way that Alonso overtakes says everything we need to know about him as an all round driver. The races were he could overtake when the emphasis was on aero and not power. He was a genius at it. Hamilton is one of the hardest racers, he does high risk high reward moves. Vettel is amazing at being there when he needs to be. He follows closely where others cannot and takes the place when it appears. Alonso on the other hand, positions his car so that 5, 6 corners later, he will not have only overtaken but gained an advantage by having a better line, by sacrificing that better line 5,6 turns earlier. It is absolute genius. Where Hamilton is an opportunist and Vettel is a realist Alonso is a mastermind. It is a game of chess to him. He is not looking for a lucky move, he is not relying on the car and his ability to use it to its max. No, he relies on his experience and knowledge to plan ahead in the heat of battle. Alonso, WHEN you get the triple crown I will look forward to seeing you win that third WDC. We all know you are top 5 of all time, now you need to cement that

Raikkonen was flattered by really fast McLarens in early 2000s, and between 07-09 he was equal to Massa. Since then, the only driver he was able to beat was crash prone Grosjean and he absolutely got demolished by Alonso in 2014. Valencia 2012 still makes me cry now. We were so lucky to be there. The atmosphere was (I know this is cliche) electric. People cheering and hugging each other who they never met. Crazy day. He always inspires the young generation of drivers. Look at Verstappen, Leclerc & Norris praising him for example. Verstappen also wanted to face Alonso in battles for wins & podiums, because Alonso was the man that was always chasing them down with a lesser car & wanted to learn from the best. Leclerc said how smart Alonso is with the tyres & his pit stop strategies. That's what I love about Fernando. He's the master of performance & everyone wants a piece of his driving.

I remember when I was like 3/4 years old (in 2004/2005) and started watching F1 with my dad, Alonso became my favorite driver even though we are German and obviously Schumacher was racing in that era. My dad would always tell me, "son, how can you be for a Spaniard when you're German" (cuz he was obviously for Schumacher). But I stuck with him always hoping for him to win the championship also against Vettel (another German Ik) and really prayed for a better future with McLaren or that he would win another championship. So it was sad to see him suffer like that with McLaren that an amazing driver couldn't unfold his full potential because of a shit car and now I'm even sadder to see him leave F1. I hope that he is successful in the Indy500 to become the second driver to win the triple crown of racing to make up for "only" two world championships which I think are way too little for a driver of his skill and class (he could have won another 3, in 2007, 2010 & 2012).

VincentSupercars .... well that says it all. You’re a looser, only looses cheer for losers. German that had Michael and Seb to cheer for and you pick Fernando? Your dad must have dropped you on your head. What a loosing idiot you are. Go watch Indy car. He won’t win there, just like he didn’t win La Man. Google it. He was disqualified. You’re probably also a Villanueve fan too, another looser. Hahaha.

Truly gutted to see my favorite driver in Formula One retiring, he took over the mantle from Michael (Schumacher) for me and I feel like he's been a big part of my F1 viewing life. I'm grateful to have seen the last 17 years with him in a sport I love. His talent was more deserving of Lewis' career stats and it could have been with a few better choices in the team's he picked to drive for, but for sheer speed, heart and ruthless determination all whilst driving cars that were not always the best, he was incredible. The last five years have been hard to watch as an Alonso fan, him driving in uncompetitive machinery but such is life and that doesn't detract from his talents as he has absolutely rung the neck of his McLaren over the last few years and as I witnessed live at Silverstone in 2015. Thanks for the great battles against other iconic drivers in Schumi, Kimi, Lewis & Seb and you will go down in history as one of the all time greats. Thanks for all the great memories Fernando. Here's to you achieving the triple crown which your huge talent deserves! Adios Champ!
