Fernando Castro, art critic, curator and professor of Aesthetics and Theory of Arts at the Autonomous University of Madrid, took part of the V Course of Introduction to Contemporary Art, with this speech called “Un Palo” (A stick)
CENDEAC / Murcia / 12 December 2013
The notion of game, forgive the repetition, plays an important role in the #art of post-avant-gardes. After the (archetypical) epic genre of expressionists and the informalist angst, a pop sensibility emerges, which breaks the barrier between high and low culture, imposing, in a way, a risible or humoristic materialism. It would be about taking seriously the #game without losing its transgressional character but without transforming the #ludical component into an emancipation panacea. Since the 1950’s until the 1980’s, that is, since the period of the takeoff of the commercial fridge until the post-modernism of the microwave, a series of artistic behaviors spread out, where each play deserves being analyzed as if we were referees of an American football match who have the possibility of using replay to confirm the happening of a touchdown.
