Great insights into how much work really goes into 3d-modelling. To help answer the other's question of how to do this without HUD or menus, I am pretty sure the author had other monitors next to the recording screen with all the technical tools, images etc.

You're a great digital sculptor, despite others trying to discredit you for using references. Most people-designers-modelers use references. I seriously doubt the team who initially created the 458's shape referenced nothing, was inspired by nothing, lol! I enjoyed the time-lapse and look forward to seeing more from you. :)

I am about to begin a 50K model of a vehicle, maybe a 60s Corvette Stingray. I'm fairly experienced in 3DS Max but have never done a vehicle project of this quality. Before I begin are there any modifiers and or general process that an artist really needs to tackle a project like this. Obviously there is the symmetry modifier, but is there anything as fundamental that many might over look. I can see that your also running a modifier that is similar or is Turbo smooth through out the process some how. Thanks for posting such great work.

This work requires one's intermediate stage skill and uses just a few tools in 3ds Max as "primitives" and "edit poly" mode. Most of the parts are premade off screen using blueprints refs just to next finish them out on the screen... But anything run in fast motion seems to be incredible. Instead to waste your time for youtube watching just download some good tutorials (there are tons of them) and study. Guarantee after one month hard working you will doing the same.

guys i have a question if i'd want to make a car for a game, like what poly count should i aim at, and is retopology necessary , or do you use high poly models ( i hear in gran turismo 6 they had like 500k polys for each car) ?:O i am kinda new to car modelling but i have a bit of experience in character modelling/sculpting, so which are major differences between both of those areas? anf if retopo is necessary are there any edge flow restriction?
@ninok199
7 жыл бұрын
They're usually made at different levels, and the game engine swaps them out based on distance from camera and number of cars you see. For example, Level Detail 0 (LOD0) can have 200-500k, this is like for car selection screens, or replays or the garage when you want detailed view of your car, but gameplay will usually run at a lower level. LOD1 would probably be half that all the way down to super low poly counts like 5-6k for when the cars are far off into the distance. Depending on the engine, they can generate the lower levels but sometimes you have to do it yourself. In the end, its up to the artist to best utilize the polygons. You can make a 10K model look spectacular if you're smart about it, and you can also have a crappy looking 100K model if you're not, so Its best if you are conscious of it and do a smart job of having more polygons where you need them (wheels, wheel wells, etc) and not in flat areas that don't (hoods, foof, etc) or areas that are not seen by the player ever.

Also normal maps normal maps everywhere. You start with a high poly model and then bake a normal map of it. Then you start lowering the poly count but the normal map remebers the car as if it was high poly. So you can have dynamic shadows on a plain because the normal map still sees it as a 500k poly car whilst it actually only is 10k polys.
