I was a professional symphony and military musician, and I know that my college marching band of a comparable size wasn't close to this HS caliber. Loved the segue from Moonlight Sonata to Sounds of Silence, and the solo flute was SOLID. And the section from the 5th was fabulous. I don't think the entire show was recorded which would be my only complaint. Fabulous drill execution and musicianship. I'm wondering how many of these players (brass and perc) march DCI (open or world class) during the summer from this school? Send a reply if anyone has a guess. Thanks!

Tom Sanders This past summer three of our now graduated seniors marched DCI. None of out members this year have marched DCI.

It's honestly surprising how low the rate that members from strong Texas band programs march DCI when in high school, it's typically only a handful from each program. It's mostly that time and financial investments are too high.

Hey Tom, it wasn't the full show because it was early in the season (September) and they weren't performing the full show yet. That is pretty common with Texas bands. They only perform the parts they know solidly, adding sections as time goes on until all four parts are performed. Then, they perfect it and make changes based on judge comments from early contests. But this event was just a showcase.

I believe it was "Sound(s) of Silence" and it was about Beethoven going deaf.
