Great job. I've to agree with one of the fellow commenters, who pointed out that you should secure the left side grinding stone with a left thread and nut on the axle, otherwise it will fly off and you'll be hurt. Nowadays is so cheap to buy a Chinese made bench grinder, that isn't feasible to experiment with a homemade one.

That’s what I was thinking. I remember working places and they never knew that and they kept tightening it when they wanted to loosen it. Lol Was also concerned with having to turn it off in a hurry it emergency situation. As the power switch is behind the wheel and slightly to the side you have to reach behind in to turn it on or off instead of using the power switch directly in front of you in a store bough one. I know I’d rather be reaching for the power switch in front rather than having to reach past a fast spinning disk any day. Think it’s quite clever but has its problems.

I agree with others, this guy is awesome to watch, has great skill.. and even though realistically...a new, small bench grinder can be had for $40 or better yet, a used one in your local Craigslist for $25 would seem more cost effective/efficient. So yes, it can be easier just to get one...but, for those who make light of this, or seem to maybe condescend... there is something to say for having not only built your own "whatever it is", but you also built the tools you used to build it with...there's some value in that.... and..... I think most of us... ..no matter what our skill level is.. or how many years experience we have.. ...can still learn a thing or two while watching a talented craftsman who is willing to put his own ideas out here for the whole world to see...and for some to criticize.... and that others can learn from..

A new drill, a drive belt, enough pieces of wood, all the bearings and various pieces of hardware would end up costing me more than a faster running, more powerful bench grinder. Plus an actual grinder like mine has shields to keep stuff from flying up in your face, you don't have to completely remove your painted, wooden, flammable tool rests to adjust them, the grinding wheels don't move up and down or side to side, it has an angle guide built into the right tool rest where the fine grinding wheel is, and so on. And besides all that, I know which way to turn an open-end wrench. When I saw this guy holding the wrench backward at just under half a minute into the video, I was wondering if I should watch the rest of it. I could have saved myself 7 minutes, 40 seconds of wasted time if I quit then. That's NOT a function of drills!!! It's a function of a bench grinder, being performed POORLY by a drill Jerry rigged to replace a grinder.
