Note on pronunciations; you'll get there. When I first started there were several names I thought that I'd never pronounce correctly, but now it's basically second nature. It also helps later on when there are a lot more voiced cutscenes, so you can actually hear the pronunciations a lot more often.

One thing I noticed about crafting and gathering in FFXIV is that all the jobs require materials from every other job, so there is no ideal pair of crafter and gatherer. You will either have to play as every crafter and gatherer or buy the remaining materials from other players.

If I may give some advice as someone who plays un-optimally: It’s best, in the early game, to do alt jobs in batches. In AAR, gear is split between Tank, Melee, Magic, and Gathering/Crafting. Class quests tend to give you a piece for the relevant job, and it is very easy to just gear yourself with items gained solely from them. Since you started with Archer, you may find it worthwhile to grab another DPS class, such as Lancer, Pugilist, or Rogue to capitalize and augment sets you already have. If you’re planning on going miner, it would be worth also dipping into Botanist and Fisher to supplement your outfit, and all crafter jobs share gear of you plan on that course. Lastly, your Hunt Logs are the best source of early game XP, maybe supplemented with some dungeon runs, FATEs, or side quests if you’re a little off from a level.

Love your vids! A long time ago when I leveled, I did the side quests with the MSQ! Side quests tie into the area you are in, give you leveled loot, & open other side quests too! But you play your way it is fine! Just have fun & don't rush! The story in my opinion is the best in any MMORPG I have ever played & I'm 57yr old & have played allot of MMORPG's! Liked & Subbed! Onto Journal 3!!!

To be fair, about the 1.0 trailer, I gave blue the idea of having you see that one during your 12 days of hey Jay, then when you started it properly, then you get the 2.0 trailer. That was on purpose, though with you doing 2 streams back to back we changed our minds to have you see it during stream 2, but you started the second stream before they could tell you to watch it then.

Please don't be too tempted by the phrase "it will get better". I have seen many people who play this game expect far too much from the story. I can only say it often enough. Play the game with low expectations and, above all, expect very standard MMO gameplay. There will still be some fetch quests coming your way. And overall, a large part of the game consists of "reading, reading, reading". Sometimes you have to think of this game more as a "light novel" with gameplay elements. In any case, I can promise that the story will definitely be better than it is now. But don't expect "the best story of all time". With this attitude you are already setting all the tracks to be disappointed later. Especially in this game. Ultimately, it's a good story for an MMO. But the way the story is told is very classically oriented towards old RPGs with a lot of text box reading. You can't compare the type of storytelling here with games like witcher 3, for example. But if you don't have a problem with textbox reading, this shouldn't be a problem. In any case, let yourself be surprised and don't expect too much. In any case, you can expect the story to be even better than it is now. But don't expect too much either. Also, just a tip: If you want Gameplay to be more challenging, you can always visit "dungeons" with NPCs. The thing is that most dungeons are very easy, because you do them with other players who already know everything and have done them several times. You can compare this to Monster Hunter. If you slay monsters by yourself it will be harder, because you have to figure stuff out by yourself compared to doing it with other players, where some veterans barge in and demolish even the strongest monsters.

It took me 5 tries until the game finally clicked. And on those 4 previous attempts I never reached Heavensward Does it mean the story only gets good at the 1st expansion? No. There a lot of good world building in ARR and alot of good story bits. All it means is there's bit of story in ARR that are just a snooze. I hope you keep at it and try to do other things from time to time than just story. Ask your community if there's something you could do together to take breaks from the MSQ grind.

Hey Jay (no puns intended) I usually don't comment but I want to - along with the other members of the community - wish you welcome in this adventure ! I'm one of many "expert" players of the game and would like to give some insights as well if you have time to read this comment - the entire story line does get better as you progress. Give it some time and take it as easy as you can because nothing is more difficult than getting through the hours of cutscenes this game has if you intend to go until the end. It's very worth it imho - The leveling system has been greatly improved over the course of the years to the point that you can most likely go through MSQ with a second class/job to level so if one is interesting you, don't hesitate to do its quests whenever - If you ever feel intrigued by the combat system I greatly recommend Jocat's crap guides. Short, very entertaining while giving a lot of insights overall Have a good day, love your vids c:

ARR while not a bad story is 100% a slow burn. It does a lot of world introduction so the plot is more of a garnish then the main dish until late ARR. The Expansions handle this pacing much better. I also love gathering and to a lesser bit crafting, I do find it helpful in breaking up the ARR quests, giving you a secondary goal to work on.

Completely agree with the blandness of ARR: when i started in 2019 the biggest pull was being able to hang out with my online friends more than anything else. Hell yeah, go get into mining and cooking! I am trying to level all the crafters right now and. It fills my inventory a lot. But I'm having fun! I also think you should pick up marauder now if that sounds cool to you. I outleveled the story on gladiator by like ten levels so I decided to take a break and level marauder and lancer also. Very happy with that decision. I want to nerd out and explain the deal with those Warriors of Light who time-travelled in the trailer, but I don't want to bore you. You'll probably learn their deal later (if you haven't already).

if you havent already i always recommend new players pick up all their jobs on that first trip around the main cities, even if you have no intention of playing the job or starting anything else with it, just visiting the guild and unlocking it is good enough, that way when you later want to try it out all you need to do is equip the weapon and you are good to go, no need to scour the world for the guild with the job that you want

ff14 takes an eternity to get going. thankfully my friends and I are past that eternity and now we are just waiting to begin the not quite eternity until things get properly good. good luck you will need it. what i don't like is that of the 3 hubs the one you chose while I can understand being the least interesting is easily the most convenient to walk around, no second floors no going to one shop and then having to walk an eternity to another thing that doesnt have an aetherite shard. ground level, logically oriented.

The crafting/gathering system in ffxiv is SO deep - like, they actually have just as many skills/abilities as a battle class, if that gives you an idea. Also your sense of curiosity with the lore/story will be rewarded. Not iust the main story, but everything else. This world is absolutely rich with lore just waiting to be discovered.

Hey jay, if you keep going with ffxiv(I surely hope you do because it really does get super good, probably the best fantasy story ever told outside of a book levels of good), would you be willing to tell us what level of the msq you get to rather than character level? Character level is largely irrelevant, so contextually the msq level gives a much better summary of where you are in the game. Thanks ^.^

Spoiler if you dont want to know anything about the starting cutscene From what ive been told, the lore behind the starting cutscene is that Before we got the FF14 we have Today when the game was on its 1st years of service it was Not well received cause of many issues or it was just "Bad". So they shutdown the servers in order to reboot the game and before it happend you get to see Bahamut in the sky before he got released and thus the starting cutscene plays before the servers go off. So basically story wise the cutscene shows us that they failed to contain bahamut and everybody dies except the few that the old man saved and sacrifieced himself . That was basically the game and servers shutting down to get rebooted and when you see the other part of the cutscene where everybody is happy tgats when the reboot happend and we got the FF14 we know now
