Somebody in my FFXIV friend group got her Ultimate clears by having one of her simps log into her account and do the fight for her. She's been flexing the weapons and titles like she earned them, I definitely get the feeling. I'd rather not clear something if I can't actually clear it, pity clears, being carried. This is the reason why most people don't like people who either get carried, use add ons, or buy titles. It's the audacity to act like they earn it. Some of us have self awareness and shame, some people's lives are so miserable they needed some self esteem boost and this is the only way they can get it. Feel sorry for them. I have parse higher than someone with the ultimate legend title before. Once you raid enough, you realise the title and weapons mean eff all. It's how the melee maintain up time despite mechanics, how the range adjust when someone eff up, how the team complete openers flawlessly and line up burst windows. That's why a horse's strength, is measure by how far and how long it can run.

However, I watched a few video guides on E9S and discovered that it wasn't so bad! Hopped into an E9S Pf and cleared in 1.5h (practice PF, but we already had 10% echo at the time) Now after 2-3 months of raiding, I've cleared E9S-E12S, UWU and am about to clear UCOB as well. "You have to do it physically in game, before it makes any sense" That's 100% me with high end content, I can watch and read all the guides in the world and 99% of that information will just enter one ear and come out the other. When I was progging Emerald EX with my FC (which btw we are mostly casual players and emerald was most of us's first experience with current content™). Despite having the quick guide for Tertius Terminus Est, it still took us a good 3-4 weeks of just chipping away at it until it finally clicked for everyone, and like you said, everyone learns at different speeds so while I do think I was one of the first few that it clicked for, we still needed more time for everyone else to figure it out. And despite Emerald being a lot lower stakes than every savage ever made, I still popped the fuck off when we finally got our clear, it was a monumental achievement to finally crack down that wall and do current EX content synced for once. And now semi consisntently clearing Diamond EX, even got my funi diamond dragon too.

I've had PS4 players ask people even in pf groups what was their dps in separate attempts. Either cuz they were worried that drifting caused them to lose a lot of dps, or were simply wondering if they are the ones that have to pay attention on next try to skip mechanics, or can they still chill. SE should really make a dps meter built in the game, at least private one. And even public one wouldn't be that bad. People that are assholes are gonna be like that either way, and most people in random parties are really frowning upon rampant cuntery either way. On the related note. Imagine how many 0 dps healers would adjust their dungeon routine without others pointing it out after seeing few times that other scholars are weaving and eating fairies like madmen, and their parses is far from zero. You can extrapolate amazing amount of good and bad practices looking at numbers and what they correlate with alone.

@@Marwington I appreciate the reply but I honestly agree that an official dps meter isn’t necessary. Where I on the other hand really enjoy seeing how much damage I can do and how to get better. I am 100% certain if an official dps meter was added half of those player would just stop playing. Having a dps meter is for ME and raiders are a pretty small community. So I’m not blaming SE that I can’t see self improvement, I’m just really jealous of pc players. Yeah so that’s why I’m saving up to hopefully buy a pc that’s the best solution personally.

@@AirshipFury This is going to sound callous but there's really no other way to say it. It sounds like your disability renders you mostly incapable of interfacing with the game as-presented. It also sounds like the type and extent of changes you would need in order to be put on a "level playing field" would be both rather significant (ie: expensive to deploy from a developer's perspective) and niche (ie: helpful for a very small portion of the player base). This is certainly a case where an open mod ecosystem is at its best, but FF14 doesn't and will most likely never have such an ecosystem. All I can recommend is to open channels with the support team to voice your opinion. You might be able to find a group whose tactics enable you to be able to carry your weight in the meantime, but I would otherwise pursue other games that are more accommodating to your specific needs. If there is a third party plugin that enables you to enjoy FF14 at the expense of fairly significant modification of visual effects, I suspect that the FF14 team wouldn't ban you over it as long as you weren't shouting about it in-game or streaming it for the world to see.

I think a lot of people just want to use addons to be brought to a level playing field. I'm an australian on an NA datacentre for example, and the lag makes it very difficult to dps optimally (no double weaving) and requires you to 'lead' your movement ahead of aoes. As a result, myself and a number of australians I know use addons that eliminate ability lag and call out aoes, but the intent was always to be able to be as effective as an NA player

Really good vid on what people don't usually say but think about, but you did say it in a very polite manner which I really like. People have their own individual limits, and it's okay if you take more time and I guess use tools to achieve something, but in the end there is a clear distinction between people that achieve something with the "default" option, and people that use additional tools to achieve it.

I think the difference is when you clear with bot, you can’t really just help others out or simply reclear if bot breaks. For me, I was able to clear the tier relatively early on healer, then 3 months later pick up a different job and still clear and help pf clear. And there are ppl who taught me how to clear that literally did week 1, had all 99 on all healers the try reclearing with every single job. Actually learning a fight means you can turn around and start helping others. And clear is a clear but all clears have different weights. Just like a number is a number but some are greater than the others

Gone are my days of committing time to a MMO like it's a part time job. I haven't done savage content since some in Stormblood, and that's okay. I just can't make a commitment to locked in schedules, and pugging something for even more hours (because knowing who you're playing with definitely narrows down practice time) isn't in the cards, either. The "hardest" thing I might have time for is some extreme trials, and that's if a friend drags me to one and I feel up to it (ie don't have to work in the morning). And, again, that's okay. I don't feel like I'm missing out... Unless they lock some different angle of the story behind clearing savage. Even then, I'm not that salty. I never raided with people using third party tools, so I can't speak about that. Does seem a bit skeevy, but the risk is on them and doesn't affect me in any way.

I'd love ffxiv to have more tools in game, Stone Sky Sea isn't a very good DPS checker since mechanics and down time are a thing. There are things which FFXIVLauncher can do which are shockingly not in the game which could be easily in the game, like Aquisition Checker (seeing if you have acquired an item by hovering over it, such as getting a dupe TT card and without needing to use it, just check the tooltip ofr the "Acquired: Yes/No" tag) and the Damage Info addon which changes the colour of damage text to show type of damage (phys/magic/dark/other) and the source of damage and heals.

I'd like to see some kind of content somewhere between normal and extreme, the initial gap of trying to get into the harder side of the game scares a LOT of people off.
@kaiteh276
2 жыл бұрын
That's what extreme is supposed to be for savage. Normal is "if you fail a mechanic you don't die". Extreme is "if you fail a mechanic, you may die, but you can recover and clear as long as it doesn't happen too many times". Savage is "if you fail a mechanic, you will probably die, and more than a handful of deaths will mean you won't clear". Ultimate is "you theoretically need to not fail any mechanic". And then variance within each tier means the whole difficulty spectrum is covered. There's not really any room for another difficulty tier to fit in, and extreme is not actually as difficult as it may seem to most. Realistically, a new difficulty tier will either be not hard enough that it becomes a misnomer (like "expert" roulette), or it lands on the other side of the perceived difficulty gap that people get scared of.

Where you can die and wipe but it can be also figured out in 50 mins by newcommers doing it blind - some older EX are like that, for example my favourite were Whorl and Shiva in duty finder. Hard at first but after little bit of chatting after each wipe very doable within timer without guides or hours upon hours of practise...

Upfront, just want to say I love the game and the devs, but one baffling accessibility oversight is the Seat of Sacrifice button mashing segment. It requires you to mash pretty intensely for an extended duration, and if anyone fails, everyone fails, and this is just such terrible design for people who may have issues button mashing. Those people may be few relative to the larger playerbase, but I just don't understand why the devs insisted on combining high intensity with extended duration with auto-group fail. Previous button mashing sections might kill you if you didn't mash intensely over a short time, and while that's a bummer and not super great, it wasn't a potential hard progress blocker. SoS is a potential hard progress blocker for the MSQ for players who can't mash, and I just don't understand why.

eh, my two cents, which means my opinion, is pretty much, i don't care. Personally, i think anything like tools that help you set bench marks, like DPS parses are nothing more than tools. They don't really do anything beyond show results of your input combined with your gear. You still have to push buttons, you still need to do mechanics correctly, ect. Cosmetics mods/add ons are just that and don't really change major aspects of the game unless you do things like reduce/turn off effects (there is a game option already for this, i don't know why you need an add on) or set things for increased visibility. The increased visibility thing is something i will stan for until the end of time mainly because there are various vision/ colorblindness issues and its hard to account for them all in basic game development. (i actually have some fun stories about WoW raids with a couple of guild mates with color blind issues. soaking/avoiding the wrong things because of the colors) Now when it comes to things automatically calling out/ telling you what to do for mechanics. i draw a hard line here personally. This is literally what makes this content a challenge and you are making the achievement less for using them. this goes double for anything that modifies your buttons. this is one of the things that i hated in WoW towards the end. how Addons were almost required to achieve certain levels of content, and not just things deemed difficult, but even things like farming. why play a game when you just install a new interface that removes most of the actual game to make it easier/faster. But at the end of the day, if thats your thing, you do you. That said, the moment having an addon affects others, either via its use, or requiring them for content, that should be a hard NO from the community. nothing you use should ever affect others. you can coach, help people along, do what ever. but them moment someone goes off with "Get X-addon scrub" the ban hammer should fall. In summary, do what ever, i don't care. Be a sweaty top tier raider with all the bragging that goes with it, make your game look as pretty/ badass as you wish. But the moment someone tells me i NEED an addon. Reported.

Lets make a distinction between UI addons and Mechanics Addons. Mechanic Addons or Bossmods that tell you what is going to happen to a UI addon that merely improve visibility of Fonts and UI elements that already exist are quite different. In WoW I use bossmods because i have to. Devs make bosses with them in mind and every uses them. In FF I only use UI addons to improve visibility of the UI. The fact I can learn Boss mechanics as i do them without needing a program is great.

I agree, I like playing hardcore ARPGs as well, in those if your character dies it is permanently dead so there is always an adrenalin rush when you survive something brutally hard but a lot of people cheapen the experience and run third party tools to log their character out instantly whenever there is a risk of death. To me that defeats the purpose of the mode but these people think they deserve the same respect as people who play it as it was intended. Nope. I really like FFXIV but I only do the content up to extreme difficulty, being in Australia the ping to anywhere is just too brutal and I don't really want to expose others to my limitation. Maybe after the Oceanic servers I might try something harder, however, I enjoy this game for what it is to me, which is a more casual experience. I used to raid competitively in WoW up to Cataclysm, I know I am capable of doing the hardest of encounters when they first come out, but it is just a lot of work and the main reason I left WoW was because fights became more scripted over time, and that is how FFXIV fights are largely. Once you recognise the pattern and you can perform your role within that pattern, and everyone can execute, then the fight goes from impossible to doable. I think it is much harder to create content that is more nuanced that isn't pattern recognition, but I tend to enjoy that kind of content. I mean, I could go outside and play savage tic tac toe where people are hurling bottles and spraying me with the garden hose in regular patterns, I just wouldn't find it entertaining even if it was extremely difficult to pull off. When I look at the hardest boss fights in these videos, the fights look ridiculous and that doesn't really compel me to try and run around like a headless chicken while trying to execute a rotation. But each to their own! I just feel there is more to entertainment than difficulty.

There's some mechanics it makes super brain dead (shadow placement on E10S comes to mind, it will literally just tell me what cardinal to drop it on) but other mechanics it doesn't help much at all (Junction Titan E12S, or to be quite honest, most of part 2 in E12S).

My philosophy on accessibility is that anything aside from skill shouldn’t be preventing people from playing a game. Skill is something that everyone should have to work to attain, and everyone should have equal opportunity to develop that skill. Will that make things harder for people with certain kinds of disabilities? Maybe in some games, unfortunately. But I don’t believe in sacrificing the core of the game to appeal to a hypothetical minority of a hypothetical minority (that being, in this case, people with specific kinds of disabilities who also happen to want to run e7s.) Edit: oh yeah I should probably mention that I’m disabled myself, in a way that makes managing hectic encounters noticeably more challenging compared to your average person. But I don’t want the game to coddle me, I want it to let me grow, just like everyone else. Even if the climb up the proverbial mountain is a bit harder, that just means reaching the summit will be all the more glorious.

This was such a good video that I'm already rewinding it. Not joking btw Seriously for a sec. I'm a very mediocre player who consistently underperforms partially because I just inherently panic or react slower to mechanics, and it's not a great feeling whenever I see myself stand right in very clearly telegraphed AoE or get clipped by something I thought I was doing perfectly (shoutouts to one of my UCOB runs where I accidentally hit Displacement right into a Liquid Hell Puddle). That being said, trying out certain plugins (such as Cactbot Alerts) hasn't really made my experience any better, as I don't enjoy seeing the letters suddenly show up in the middle of a rotation, or while I'm trying to focus on callouts or debuff searching. So, why am I still even trying? For me personally, I realized that it's because all I really want to do in this game is to experience. I'm not here to brag or show off my sick glam or even to optimize my gameplay to a T, I just really enjoy the idea of having done this harder content that a lot of far more talented and well-practiced people then some random 3-4 month player have excelled at. And it's because of that fact that I've managed to do some pretty alright feats (beating up to Turn 9 of Coils synced, and E1/2S with E3/4S being in progress). Yeah, I didn't do it min Ilvl or no Echo or whatever (hell, I'm still using some ACT Plugins), but honestly, watching this video, I've fully realized that it doesn't matter. I'm content just with the way I do things, and content with trying it out even if it's supposedly a shell of what it used to be. I'll never be a Week 1 Clearer and I might not even be cut out to finish UCOB, but if I'm having fun and laughing my ass off while my FC mates and I get knocked cleanly off an Arena by Leviathan, does it really matter? Nope, it really doesn't because I'm fine with being content. I think that's the best way to summarize my thoughts, and I hope others can come to the conclusion they want to as well.

I like to see my parses at the end of a fight and use them to improve my own gameplay and learn what i've been doing right and wrong, thats cool. I just hate it when a player starts calling someone out for not doing enough damage when it really doesn't matter. I think the term accessibility in the context of video games is used incorrectly so often people focus so much on a piece of content's difficulty and put a huge emphasis on that aspect and completely ignore actual accessibility features that will help disabled people. I have lived around disabled individuals for a good portion of my life (my parents used to take care of them) I will tell you right now there is not a single one of them that want's things to be straight up easier they don't wanna be treated differently than others, What they do want is tools to help them get closer to the abilities of a non disable person. If you wanna talk about accessibility in games then talk about making new controllers keyboards to help those with disabilities, or colorblind modes, the ai calling out the name of the spell like you mentioned which is a great idea btw. Things like that are what disabled people want they don't wanna be babied or treated like anyone else they just want the same opportunity to challenge themselves like everyone else.

My biggest problem stopping me from doing savage is I don't have a consistent schedule due to work, and I don't want to deal with pugs so I'm stuck. Don't have the consistency to join a static and do actual prog, won't subject myself to the pain that is pug. I tried that back in stormblood, never again.

Thats the reason why I gave up on doing savage. The statics I joined wanted to go super fast and clear. But me, I'm an idiot and it takes me time to adapt to the way this game works. I just can't do hard group content anymore because I have 7 other people yelling at me calling me an idiot because I'm struggling. Raiding just isn't for me anymore. In ff14 or wow.

Great vid! The only addon I use that makes the game """easier""" is xivalexander, but that's only because I cant play some jobs without it (MCH, NIN, etc.) Not being able to double weave reliably due to my ping sucks, and if I have to use an addon in order to play those jobs, so be it.

I had a similar conversation about people's limits that they might have themselves today. One of my friends specializes in a field. I have a class in that field. And I don't get it. If we weren't online then I would ask them for help on it. But it doesn't matter how much I read or watch on it. I'm still confused and have no clue what to do.

Glad I stuck to not using using add-ons until I started doing ultimates this expansion. I'll never use anything more than act to monitor the small things I miss during fights and improve on a personal level.

Technically GShade is the one *addon* that they have explicitly said is ok since it uses the existing DX11 API.

Shit really? When did they say that?

I'm pretty sure it's less that and more due to the fact that some GPUs come with shaders preinstalled onto them so it would technically be breaking the rules just by owning certain hardware and the associated drivers

as a disabled person i'll say the only time lack of accessibility is a problem, is when there is *no choice* but to run that content to progress an important part of the game, and that part has accessibility problems. so for example, normal raids should be accessible. ultimate raids don't have to because i don't have to run them to access story and gear. basically the problem lies in having content you are *expected* to clear not be accessible. using accessibility as an excuse for certain things is just able-bodied people whining and using someone else to justify themselves to shift the blame. you wanna complain about accessibility, look at housing though. it's not a core part of the game, but it certainly isn't supposed to be a challenging content that lots of disabled people can't access. but hey, they are doing changes to it, because the developers are decent people who listen to their playerbase! basically: the point of ultimate content *is being challenging and inaccessible*. they're not gatekeeping you. you don't have to clear it. there is nothing locked behind it.

Part way through progging E4S I realized that my brain is far too smooth to play savage. Got filtered by E10 and now the rest of my static has gone off to clear UWU and UCOB
