I know there's almost no chance of you reading this but...I really like your videos. Always check them out when looking into a new Job. I guess the one thing I have trouble with is (for some Jobs) the filler or how the filler leans into various bursts. Like NIN I'm still not entirely sure how the 1 min burst should play out. I'm not sure the best way to ask, but in DT if you do these again - and I hope you do because they're amazing! - it might be nice to demonstrate just the filler or the filler transition into later bursts. It probably wouldn't take much time, but that little bit could be useful for smooth brains like me. :) Anyway, I love your stuff and hope you keep doing it, you're amazing at it!

I'm never sure if things should be held or not, but I think the right way to see it is "anything overcapped is wasted, and that's a bigger loss than +10% damage by holding it for burst". I'm just never sure if that's always true for all DPS Jobs. Been a healer main/tank alt for so long, trying to get into DPS more and it's just different. But I'm probably overthinking it. : ) Thanks for the advice, sir. o/

Great timing on this video. I've been trying to git a bit better at SAM in Heavensward so this is helpful. As you say, the basics are pretty straight forward, doing them efficiently is harder. I was applying the Midare DOT at the beginning of every fight and saving Meikyo for later, but can see the rationale of going with Meikyo + True North right off the bat to get both buffs. After playing Monk it's really annoying that I have to have Kenki saved in reserve to be able to use Gyoten when necessary. I use the equivalent Monk "dash in" skill a LOT and keep hitting it on reflex. Just hit level 60 & got Meditation so maybe that Kenki gauge will fill up a bit faster.

Just leaving this in case you remake this for Dawntrail. In your karaoke for lvl 70 you say use True North at the beginning, but that True North is wasted because Meikyo Shisui already guarantees positional damage. Also, I'm not sure how this would affect party buffs, but generally I don't use Meikyo for Yukikaze because it wasted time versus Kasha or Gecko. Especially since Meikyo and Higenbana are both 1m cooldowns, we want them as close as possible, so what I would recommend is to make the whole loop tighter by going: Hakaze, Yukikaze, Meikyo (again, no True North), Gecko, Kasha, Midare, Gecko (you still have one use of Meikyo left, I pick Gecko for damage but you could also go Yukikaze for kenki, it doesn't matter here because...), Higenbana. Then just weave hissatsus in as you get them.
@WeskAlber
10 ай бұрын
Where are you getting this Positional Damage thing? The tooltip says nothing of the sort. And that's why openers are built the way they are. Maximizing gains under party buffs, rather than pure sustain. Getting a quick Midare in and Higanbana under like, +40% worth of party buffs is worth far more than the theoretical +1GCD gained in your vacuum example. Alignments matter more, and at 90 it outright is optimal. Even if it isn't optimal at 70, practicing what will be the optimal opener... kinda way more important due to what lessons you learn in said practice.

It's been over 300 days since 6.1. Honestly, it's less that Kaiten is gone (I still do miss, even if I get why you might remove it), and more they haven't done anything since? Very disappointed in the lack of followup adjustments or changes in the rotation or Kenki generation since 6.1. It's been months.

But why would they? Kaiten did nothing and was boring, and now they put SAM in a good place.
@yanipheonu
Жыл бұрын
@WeskAlber Some people feel Kenki needs adjustment now that a spender has been removed. Kaiten spent Kenki. Not an unfair concern when any resource receives a change like this. SAM's resource economy changed but nothing else changed. "Shinten spam" is a common complaint, and I personally don't like pressing it as often as we are. It's not unreasonable to think that even a minor adjustment to reduce that simple repetition might make things smoother. Or it could be improved in other ways: open up the other spenders to be used more often for better rotation variety, for example. There's also arguments for whether the gap closer/dash back should even still cost Kenki/should be adjusted in an era where Thunderclap and Reaper Teleports exist. Mobility creep has occured within END melee DPS. I do think the ranged Iai does make up for a lot of this and don't personally feel it's necessary, but it's a discussion being made. The job can work fine without Kaiten, I can admit that... I just won't claim SAM and the Kenki gauge are now perfect and need no adjustments for months.
@WeskAlber
Жыл бұрын
That's for 7.0 changes. Besides, you always tried to hold of Kenki for re-openers. Shinten spam was always the default. Kaiten didn't add any depth, the job isn't about having a bunch of different weaves. It made more sense when Hagakure was better than Midare but ever since the change to be a re-adjuster for rotation, it just didn't feel great personally. 7.0 will likely change SAM, PLD, and DRG all on launch. We can hope their changes are enjoyable.
