It's been a little while since the last update as we have all been taking some time to enjoy the few days of summer we actually get in the UK!
In this episode I take a quick run out to pick up a Fiat 126 gearbox from a 500R, swapping the 126 transaxle into a 500 is quite common as it has the synchromesh on 2nd-4th gear that isn't in the earlier cars. However it will normally require a complete swap of bellhousing and axles as the 126 axles are too long, here I show you how to identify a synchro box that is from a 500R and doesn't need an axle swap, as well as a brief look at how a synchro box works.
This particular box was bought with a known problem, a noisy 1st gear, so I have a dig around to uncover the reason and how we are going to rectify it
