The starters are made by Denso in Japan and they are very reliable. Before you take the starter out, try cleaning the post clamp assembly at the starter solenoid. That’s the big wire that uses a 13 mm socket. If you do that first you may not have a bad starter, but high resistance and corrosion on that post clamp area. Fiat uses a black plastic case around the bolt which does nothing but collect water and corrosion. If you insist on removing the starter, remember that one of the bolts go through the other side of the transmission case and hasta, be accessed from the opposite side

Where do I find this post clamp assembly? I'm beginning to feel this might be the issue with my car. I used a portable jump start and my car turned on. I then removed it, tried turning it on again and it failed. I placed the jump start back, and this time it didn't turn on. I finicked with the cables attachments to the battery, placed the jump start, and it turned on. I'm confused.

Great video. One tidbit that may help some viewers. Not all Fiat 500's have that little rubber grommet protected port that covers the other starter bolt. Some just have the bolt head poking through and you can easily see it once you pull out the battery box.

I’m going to do the Starter tomorrow and I will test it with electricity on a bench and I will smell it as well. That’s a great idea. I smell burnt computer components to see if they have been fried so I’m already familiar with that idea

Do you know the size and specs of the starter bolt? Is it metric? M8 or so? And how long?

I came to see how I can replace the starter myself. But seems at least to me more difficult than o would like to manage.

Jack, jack stands, flashlight, metric socket set with extension(s), and swivel socket should get you pretty far in life and car maintenance 😀. Good luck

According to the Fiat service manual for both loss of power and won't start, possible causes include: bad gas, improperly gapped spark plugs, incorrect cam timing, faulty ignition coil, faulty fuel pump or wires. Of course, if there is a check engine light, those codes should give you a better idea. Good luck

@@HooptieDoodle “Won’t start” is different to “wont turn over” when diagnosing a bad starter.

FIX IT AGAIN TONY says he would have liked to have seen the new starter installed and working. Having been a Fiat mechanic back in the early 80's I found it helpful to have at least a half-dozen Italian swear words in your lexicon. Normal swear words work, but not as well as Italian ones.
