Hi John, I'm from Philippines. I watched your video on block resurfacing. I have a 6 cylinder diesel engine, I sent the head for resurfacing ,still the coolant keeps coming out of the radiator. I suspect the block is warped. Can the block of diesel engine with dry type liner be resurfaced? Thanks.

+Rogelio Dela Cruz Did you have the head pressure tested to 60 psi? Yes, you can resurface dry sleeve blocks, but the liners need to be installed. Hope this helps.

Wouldn't it be a good idea to smooth out the edges? Seems like a very good place for a crack to start.

+LILLJE The hand finish on the cam will be done after its ground with the new specs.

John from a dirt track racers standpoint do you think this would help the rotating assembly weight of a small block Chevy?
@fiatnutz
9 жыл бұрын
+SlowRollin TexasStyle Probably not because of the very high spring pressures you guys run. With all that pressure, the cam would most likely twist if you took too much material off. My over the nose pressure is around 170 pounds, nothing like a well built SBC. But, you could give it a try if you are using a cast iron cam, but use moderation.

Thanks for the reply John. I was kinda on the fence about trying it and still msy but you pointed out the spring pressure that I never thought about.

Autobianchi a112 Abarth crankshaft. It should give you 982 cc on the regular 65 mm bore.

hi, was just wondering why is the lathe rotating in the opposite direction
@karroome

tool post positioning convenience maybe?
@fiatnutz

+karroome That's the way my lathe is setup for cut-off. The tool jumps up and out of the way instead of down so the tool breaks. Give it a try, I think you will like it.

John, why is this being done? Is there a clearance issue?
@fiatnutz
9 жыл бұрын
+Bob Alves Yes, look at the last pic. Block needs to be notched as well for the 74mm crank to clear everything.

Are there any other benefits to turning down the journals? Weight reduction? Clean machined surface? ect?
@fiatnutz
9 жыл бұрын
+Tim Fox You need the journals to support the cam in the middle, so I don't think it would help.

+fiatnutz John, I didn't mean the journals. I had not had my morning coffee yet and had not fully pried my eyes open. The rough casting parts you were turning down, how much weight reduction would you get? Would it be something a race engine builder would consider?
@fiatnutz

+Tim Fox Only if you are crazy like me and drill all my bolts to lighten them. I get laughed at a lot by other competitors when they look under the bonnet and see all the drill fasteners. When you have weight limitations, you have to be proactive to get to them and only a pound more. I was within 2 lbs at one national level race this year when the car was weighed.

+fiatnutz That's just dedication. I was thinking more in terms of lightening the rotating assemblies with a method similar to what you did in the video.
