Brian, I realize many people, including veterans, have started their cottage industry making fire making stuff. I personally do not believe you can beat Vaseline impregnated cotton balls, they flat work every time with a lighter or a ferro rod. Fatwood is also great, and is free. I hope scouts are still taught simple, homemade and basic skills. I can see someone going out, using up all the pre-made, packaged tinder and freezing to death because they could not figure out how to start a fire.

Like I said, Vaseline impregnated cotton balls. Didn't I say that? In my 35mm film container, I'm pretty sure they'll work every bit as good as commercial firestarters. However, check out Black Scout Survival, he's got a kerosene filled compass. As long as you have a Bic lighter or ferro rod, you're in the fire business.

Okay, your point is well taken. I've used it. I just don't like the noxious fumes. Truth is, if you have to depend on trioxane's long burning time, where is your self-sustaining and growing fire? Backpacking, hunting or search & rescue in the winter I carry waterproof matches, a ferro rod, a Bic lighter, cotton balls in petroleum jelly, inferno solid fire starter, (similar to trioxane. ) Take advantage of several methods when conditions may require it. I weighs very little. Try a pocket bellows they're great.

Now that is super cool stuff Bryan! Very impressive! One of those in EDC bag and outdoor kit and one in the car emergency kit too! And the best thing is it is natural material. I like it! But it does not have the wonderful smell of fatwood :( The fact that it actually burns floating on water is pretty awesome. And has quite impressive burning time too. Great review :) Thank you for sharing Bryan! Have a wonderful weekend! Big thumbs up!

Great video sir! It's the first of yours that I've watched and I look forward to learning from all the rest. I just met the owner of the company for the product, Justin, at the Costa Mesa, CA Gun Show yesterday. He asked me to look up your KZitem Channel and I instantly subscribed. He's a genuinely nice guy and I really like his product. Although there are a lot of alternatives out there, many that are free or close to it, I'm 100% in favor of supporting any person that makes a product that benefits his fellow man. Made by a US Veteran, in the USA, AND from a waste product...how much better does it get?

Both are excellent. I spoke with the creator at length on the phone. He is a Marine and when he got back in civilian life he said he got interested in outdoor survival type stuff. He said he kept driving by this sawmill and wondered how the waste product would work for firestarting. He and his wife started in their garage.
