From this video, You can understand the concept of Fiber cables and fiber splicing mechanisms. We have shown a step by step process on how to splice a fiber cable from scratch. These fiber cables are used in most of the places where internet or telecommunication related requirements are needed.
Note: We have used patch cables to demonstrate the concepts. In reality, Fiber optic cables with a outer shied (black) is used which will be having minimal fiber loss.
A fiber optic fusion splicer is a device that uses an electric arc to melt two optical fibers together at their end faces, to form a single long fiber.

Fiber optic cable: Optical fiber consists of a core and a cladding layer, selected for total internal reflection due to the difference in the refractive index between the two. In practical fibers, the cladding is usually coated with a layer of acrylate polymer or polyimide. This coating protects the fiber from damage but does not contribute to its optical waveguide properties. Individual coated fibers (or fibers formed into ribbons or bundles) then have a tough resin buffer layer or core tube(s) extruded around them to form the cable core. Several layers of protective sheathing, depending on the application, are added to form the cable. Rigid fiber assemblies sometimes put light-absorbing ("dark") glass between the fibers, to prevent light that leaks out of one fiber from entering another. This reduces cross talk between the fibers, or reduces flare in fiber bundle imaging applications.
Fusion Splicing:
In fusion splicing a machine is used to precisely align the two fiber ends then the glass ends are "fused" or "welded" together using some type of heat or electric arc. This produces a continuous connection between the fibers enabling very low loss light transmission. ( Typical loss: 0.1 dB)
The most robust splicing machine you can buy for your CATV/Internet Network.
