The way the machine closed after you locked in the second fiber made it seem like something straight out of a sci-fi movie

I like the independent control of your cleaver, the only downfall is more equipment to haul around with the fusion splicer. When I'm in a lift or bucket, the less the better. I use a UCL Swift K4F and it's all contained in one. Strips, cleaves, cleans, fuses, tensile tests, and heats the supportive shrink. It's about twice the price, my only complaint is the cleaver is not manually adjustable, so attempting to re-cleave on an cut with intolerable angle means redoing the whole process or pulling out my corning manual kit. Thanks for sharing! going to look into this cleaver!

You don't need to close the clamp on the cleaver. Just hold the fiber like a pencil with about an inch and a half sticking out and press it into the groove on the cleaver and close the paddle. It saves some time when you're doing a lot of burns.

We don’t really “splice” it like this. We put a fast connect on each line and mate them together via plastic bulk head. It’s pretty simple, but there is higher light loss and reflection 😊

It was slow on purpose, we had an issue with "Teny Fiber" and the reps wanted a video of how we did it to verify things were right. Plus, it's a video showing an example of how to fusion splice so being as fast as possible was never the point.

I agree, and we did, but this was a video we did at the request of the "TenyFiber" reps to show them how brittle their fiber was. They wanted to see our process and verify it wasn't something we were doing. The equivalent Corning fiber never had this issue, same cleaver, cleaner and splicer.

Set the fiber cleaver on a firm position before cleaving(on top of ur splicer, it can be done :D) and you'll get more conssistent perfect cleaves.

Wait how does that work? Does it use glue or heat? How can it make a seamless transition between the fibers? How can it maintain the gradient of refractive index?
@shresth146
Жыл бұрын
It's heat, actually the fiber is combination of glass and other polymers that gives it the flexibility. so you don't really need high temps to fuse the two plus these machines are really really accurate (and expensive). so now have your answer.

Cleaver I use at work doesn’t have that clamp that holds down the fiber right before you make the cut. Is this an accessory that comes with the tool or is it a separate part? If so what is it called so I can get one for my cleaver. Thanks in advance for your response
@walkerallen425

@@TheLuigiSwagthe clamp isn’t necessary at all for a clean cleave, it slows you’re progress and doesn’t make a difference if that’s what you’re aiming for. I use the same cleaver and it’s worth the $600 if you do buttsplices often
