I enjoy learning about Fiddle leaf figs from your channel. I have been fighting fungus gnats most of this year. I learned about keeping the top 2 inches of soil dry since they lay their eggs in the damp soil that hatch in 3 weeks. A vicious cycle. Your information in this video that they don't harm your plants is not what I have experienced. The larva eat the roots, and the plants die. Before I realized that I even had gnats in the soil, I was watering & 3 plants (not fiddle leaf fig) that looked healthy, fell over because they had no roots left. I lived in Arkansas where it is humid already so it's easy to over water.

Thanks for sharing! Actually you have a point with the yellow sticky traps, they are gross BUT I use them only when I start to see gnats flying around. If any of these gnats are pregnant, I get a chance to catch them before they lay eggs since they really do get attracted to that bright yellow stickiness! And I use it together with Diatomaceous earth. It’s worked wonders for me! I don’t have the problem often but when I do these two things together works best and no harmful chemicals. 👍🏼

I use the sticky traps WITH another method, only to catch any pregnant or existing gnats. The traps don't solve the root problem, but helps with those suckers already flying around.

THANK YOU! I brought some plants in my home from my dad's funeral and my figs and snake plants got INFESTED. I have tried everything and even resorted to pouring bleach down my drains every day and I still have some in the soil. ( I have repotted my poor plants twice too..washing out roots and everything! ) I have used the insecticidal soap, but was scared to use the actual bug killer. I am going to the store now...thank you again!

Thank you. I have repotted this plant 3 times now. The last time, I completely washed the roots, the pot, and put in all new soil (to the point of almost killing this beautiful plant). I have also sprayed with the insecticide mentioned here. The gnats return every time! I finally put the plant outside for the summer. I am exhausted and ready to ditch it for good. I will give it one last try and repot with the fiddle leaf soil. Perhaps the other soils I have are retaining moisture? No idea what why these nasty gnats return each time. UGHHHH.

After we spray, how long should we wait to water?

Water as you normally would when the top inches of soil are dry. Make sure to continue with the spray until you no longer have evidence of the gnats. Happy Growing!

Can I use this product on all of my house plants?

It's safe for most houseplants! If you're unsure, it may be a good idea to test it on a small area (maybe 1 leaf) to make sure your plant takes well to it before applying it to the entire plant.

I have a very large fiddle leaf fig tree over 10’ so the pot and soil depth is very large. I use that same chemical spray but it has not resolved my fungus gnat issue… I’m about ready to pour the whole bottle into my plant. Do you think that would be harmful to my plant?

Hi Eunice, thank you for your question! I don't recommend pouring the full bottle onto the soil as it may upset the balance of the soil itself. Are you able to diagnose the cause of the gnats? Is it staying too damp or not receiving enough light? You can also try removing the top inches of soil and redressing the soil so that you are removing the larvae that is also within the top soil itself. I hope these tips help! Fungus Gnats are hard to get rid of. Consider the reason they may be coming back. Is the soil staying too wet? Is the pot draining well out multiple holes on the bottom? Is your plant getting enough light? Also, Garden and Insect Killer spray should help to get rid of them completely.

Gnats are back! Repotted plant 4 times now. I don't get why people want this plant. It's troublesome! I have a house full of plants! NONE have issues except this one, over and over and over. The plant was outside all summer. I repotted it. I sprayed it. It's back in the house because it's November and it's getting colder. The Gnats have returned. SMH. I. Don't. Get. It!

Oh no! I know, Kendall, how much of a nuisance gnats can be. Keep up with the insecticide spray and make sure the soil isn't staying too wet. remove the top inches of soil and place fresh on top if you start to see them come back. Good luck!
