Texas is such a big state with so much natural variety, but San Antonio up to Dallas is thick with it. I enjoyed a big mess of wild field mustard greens at a big family Thanksgiving dinner in the Waco area a few years ago. It's easy to pick a lot in a short amount of time, for feeding a big crowd, and pretty much anyone who likes greens likes field mustard. I hope you can find some around you.

That sounds delicious! In your area, this Wild Field Mustard (Brassica rapa) is not as widespread as the Black Mustard ( Rhamphospermum nigrum, but it used to be called Brassica nigrum), but it's around, from Carpenteria up through Campus Point, and to Capitan. I hope you can find some. The clasp of the leaves around the flower stalk, as the plant matures, helps with the ID. Where I live in the city) it is hard to find a decent amount of field mustard usually but there are times I find it growing next to garlic mustard or yellow dock and field cress. I love them cooked with lentils out add them to my soups, but especially in the spring I make them (all the greens I have mentioned together) I make them chopped up destemmed in a bacon dressing sauce, just like dandelion. I add boiled egg slices or chunked, bacon pieces, wild mushrooms , wild onions with honey and apple cider vinegar, to the taste I like . I also add wild carrot and it's leaves . Sometimes I will add Jerusalem artichokes or burdock roots. Any root vegetable will do actually. It always tastes terrific! I love my wild greens!

Thanks for commenting, wildfood. I'm glad you enjoyed my wild field mustard video. Haha, Smilax has so many names, mostly cuss words with all those thorny vines, lol. So it's very satisfying to eat their growing tips -- and even better, I think they are delicious grilled or in a stir fry. I have some video footage from eating them in Arkansas, at my parents' place. It's not the best footage, but I don't often get back there at the right time for harvesting, and I end up eating them too fast to do a good camera job. I'll consider putting something together, though. There's a lot of Smilax around for people to enjoy eating!
