Wayne Gretzky had 1,963 assists. Even if you took away all of his 894 goals, he’d still have 42 more points than the next closest guy. Jaromir Jagr had 1,921 and played 5 more seasons than Gretzky. Gretzky is definitely not an obscure star here in the US. I guess he might be in the UK as hockey isn’t as popular there.

When CR7 first came to United, he wasn't so liked ... kept doing useless leg overs, unnecessary skills and wasn't so great in the final third but fair play to him, he worked hard and improved and was amazing towards the end of his spell at United and the rest of his career but I feel Messi on the other hand was always great, from La Masia, to Barcelona etc

Jahangir Khan, absolutely dominated squash at a time when squash was still pretty popular. with his brother Jansher Khan. the domination these 2 had was literally ridiculous. easily the best pair of brothers in a sport, and crazy as they were playing the same era and were basically always facing each other in finals.

If we are going on out there ones that aren’t all that obscure but you wouldn’t think straight away it would be Micheal Phelps. Most Olympic medals, gold medals ever, most gold medals at a single olympics, multiple Wrs broken etc. he is obscure and branded in the swimming world up the wazzu coz he is literally the greatest swimmer even tho he was around during a golden era in swimming over 14-16 years.

If you want an obscure sportsperson that’s a household name (at least in Sweden) look no further than the Swedish prince Carl Philip! He might be the reverse though, since everyone here knows he’s a prince, but people may not know he’s also a racer. He’s pretty good as well if I remember correctly
