Oh my gosh, your trees look so lush and beautiful - it is hard to believe we only live a few miles apart. Mine are struggling because of all the cold. I've lost count how many times I have shuffled them this season. Your trees are about where mine are by the end of May! Enjoy and see you soon!

Well then bring yours over! 😄 But seriously, the fig shuffle wouldn’t be bad if it wasn’t for our short short summer. It was heartbreaking to have so many figs that I couldn’t get to ripen.

You are doing so great. I really enjoy your updates. I just started with figs and I would love to vlog my journey but I am a little nervous to do so. I can’t believe how real the fig addiction is. My wife thinks I’m nuts 😊

Welcome! 🤣 it’s real and it’s terrifying and exhilarating and heartbreaking and punch-the-air awesome. Apologize to your wife from now and just let her know that it’s a sickness. I’m very excited to know you!!!!

I live in Florida and I noticed that watering the fig trees everyday morning and evening helped the tree develop lots of leaves and fruit. As soon as I see fruit on the fig trees I hold back the water to every other day. The other fruit trees require lots of water to produce big fruit

I love your setup up. That's a great investment. This is my second year with a greenhouse. I can totally see the difference between figs in the greenhouse and those that shuffle back in the garage. Lots of breba on all figs except desert king.

I see there is a "stinky bucket" in your greenhouse. Is this the only way you fertilize your fig trees, or do you add something else? I'm wondering because it's only April and your figs trees look great.
@afig3539

Yes, I mainly use the stinky bucket but I also made a banana fertilizer and calcium fertilizer to use now that we have the figs forming. The stinky bucket, in my opinion, has been amazing. The true test will come when we taste them.

Also wanted to ask what fertilizer you use and what the feeding schedule was?

I used fermented water (my version of JADAM). Anything you would compost, in tank of water with leaf mold. 2 cups per gallon of pond water. Twice per week. Once I had figlets, I switched to my home-brew potassium fertilizer + wood ash solution once per week. I give them eggshell extract once per month. Watch my new video for this method. Thank you for watching and asking!! 😊

Do you keep all your trees as a single leader? I always thought you got more fruit if you had multiple leaders?
@afig3539

Only from the bottom. I want them goblet shaped so branching from top. I don’t like bush-style - they just take up too much room.

How old are your trees? What size pot do you have them in?
@afig3539
2 ай бұрын
Most of my trees are in their third year. Majority are in 7gal pots. Several in 10gal pots. I would like to keep them in the 7gal pots because of space. If necessary I’ll root prune them in a couple of years or at the end of this season. 🤞🏻

It must be really expensive to have a greenhouse?
@afig3539

It all depends on what you consider “worth it”. 😊 For my husband, it was “worth it” to have his garage back! 😂

I’m not sure yet. I haven’t really had a chance to taste the majority of my figs! 😋 I will let you know later this summer. But as far as growing fig trees without a greenhouse and in this bad weather: Ronde de Bordeaux, Atreano, Negronne, and Italian Lattarula.
