The weird thing about fighting games is that it made me love losing. I love when i lose to a really good player and can appteciate it. Other games dont do that

The one thing that always keeps me coming back to fighters, and this is something that I think fighters are amongst the ONLY type of games nowadays that still do this, is the idea of playing with someone else in person. Mix not having any ports for ethernet with the fact that matches online tend to feel hollow more often than not, but having friends I can meet up with and run some Tekken, SF, MK, KoF, whatever, so that we can impress each other with new stuff we learned and have close matches is a feeling unparalleled. I still love a handful of others genres as well, coop and single-player especially, but in regards to feeding that competitive edge no genre clicks the same as fighting games.

Yeah, most story-based games now mostly focus on the story and graphics first, with the gameplay typically being a variant of something we've seen before with a gimmick or two. Also, they love to incorporate long sections where you're just walking as people talk in the background for exposition. That's gotta go.

Ninja Gaiden is more frustrating than actually challenging. When I played Sigma on hard mode the Emperor literally walked around in the lava and shot projectiles the entire fight. I had to run back to the merchant and stock up on arrows to progress.

@@lipailong2 lol that is annoying but im not specifically talking sigma the originals were much more challenging they dumbed down alota boss fights and even got rid of certain parts of boss fights and made them easier sigma desided to kee them simple and instead of a bunch of Enemies on harder difficulties they just do alota damage but way less enemies which i though was dumb

The arcades was glorious back in the day. They've made games like very unforgiving just to get more coins however by the time I turned 16 I've started to beat fighting games on the arcades on a regular basis. DOA 2, Marvel vs Street Fighter, Tekken 3 to name a few. Hell, on my PlayStation 2 I've clocked God of War 2, Need for Speed Most Wanted, Ratchet and Clank 3, Jak 3, Ratchet Gladiator on it's hardest difficulty, Soul Calibur 3, Mortal Kombat Armageddon and many games. Gaming is no fun when you play on hard and you still have no proper challenge unless you play on the hardest difficulty. Sometimes I love playing against my friends just to see how far I've progressed. If I win while they pushed me to my limits then I know I can improve and I feel alive but if I destroy them without any resistance then I get bored very quickly. If I do lose then I have to improve.

I can definitely understand where you're coming from I'm currently still trying to beat Final Fantasy 7 rebirth. It's a great game however I am getting to the point where I'm really appreciating fighting games more simple pick up and play mentality. It's way easier to button mash your way to victory, And whether or not you win or lose, you're still enjoying your time compared to a single-player story game where you have to know certain characters and plot threads, Do a bunch of side missions and learn the game mechanics In order to enjoy it. I hope what I'm saying makes sense.

Had to comment here, I lost my interest in gaming in my 20s and was only brought back by souls games in my late 20s. I got obsessed, played them all, got into invading (invading other peoples single player experience to fight them and their friends) definitely check them out they’re the only single player experience I still enjoy. Sekiro, bloodborne, DS3 being my favourites. Since then though (past couple of years) just been flat out on fighting games, nothing compares. I’ve been bitten by a bug I don’t think I’ll ever shake. They truly do ruin other games, great video man.

it's about the replayability , single player story mode games have no replay value you finish the story then you're done with it there's nothing else to do so it feels boring and pointless, but fighting games you can just play them endlessly , but at the same time i can't play TEKKEN 8 nonstop this game tires me out i need a break so i bought dead island 2 and dying light 2 cause i love killing zombies and i've been having me some fun with that, i will also get Ghost of Tsushima it's coming out on steam and i'm a huge nerd for japanese samurai culture

Ninja Gaiden 2 on master ninja mode (hardest difficulty) is the hardest modern day gaming experience ive played and beaten - the game is so hard that you get a trophy and a Gray Gamer picture (Hayabusa) as a reward for completing it Once i beat it back in 2008 i changed my gamer picture to that……as my hunters "Deer on my wall" as trophy for a successful hunt Ninja gaiden 2 on master ninja mode makes dark souls seem like an amusement park lol

I will always care about story in gaming im 37 years old. Yes i was competitive but we must remember Gaming is escapism leisure When we become hyper competitive when having fun is out the window it makes it harder to genuinely have fun without stress leaving the stress of real life….only to go the stresses of gaming is not really healthy tbh ….there is a balance imo

Sekiro Shadows Die Twice, Wo Long, Lies Of P (Which is what I'm starting to play and stream), BloodBorne, Elden Ring. Are all very great souls like games that supply a good challenge!!! I have been a gamer all my life, learned how to read as a child by playing the older final fantasy games, that forced you to read the story. Games have lost their way a little bit, but the games I mentioned are still a good challenge if your looking for some action and hardcore gameplay!!!

For me fighting games are quick and easier to pick up. You learn something from an older fighter or a diffrent fighter. Then you can use that in another fighter whether that be online, vs, or in a single player mode.

I disagree with the first part of your video, I'm very much loving the casual aspect of fighting games still, although modern fighting games have been a major disappointment when it comes to single player content in the last 15 years, but older games to me are very much fun to replay. What I do agree with you though, is that fighting games's complexity and depth has definitely ruined other genres for me lol, the gameplay is simply too addicting and has much more replayability value than most other games as far as I'm concerned.

In terms of "other" games you could play as a chronic FGC gamer, yeah Souls and Soulslikes are a good pick. Dark Souls 3 and Elden Ring are good as a starter set. You as a DOA-head: definitely take a look at Nioh (Team Ninja btw). Oh, and Sekiro and Lies of P for the parry masters. Huge world to explore here haha

Come now! You should take a break from grinding and lobby hopping! Outplaying opponents takes a lot of brain juice. You need to turn that off at one point and enjoy what other gaming genres we have. Sticking to one genre is like sticking to one channel in tv watching reruns over and over again. Anywho, since math has invaded fighting games, you should try min maxing characters in strategy rpgs like Disgaea! However, I insist you play NES ninja gaiden 1. It will change your outlook on spinjas a bit. XD

Ah, you know I would understand your sentiments but basically replace single player with non-fighting game multiplayer. If we can play something together, I need to kick your ass or something elses’ ass like a beat ‘em up. Otherwise, I need my single player games to battle the burnout from FGs. There’s not a lot of games that push the Ps5’s power and I need to see those more. FGs need to step up in this area and Tekken 8 was a good step in the right direction.

I get what you mean, There's is nothing in western AAA gaming that stimulate you in the way a fighing gamecan. Japanese single player games hit those aspects for me but they hone in on either the mental or physical aspects of what makes fighting games great but they don't combine them.

Hardcore fighting gamer; would like to save you some time - Dark Souls games are Addictive, not Hard. You will sink about 100 into Dark Souls 3, Bloodborne, or Sekiro. I don’t recommend Sekiro for fighting game players; Souls players like Sekiro, not sure if it translates to Fighting gamers. I hated it, felt like a waste of time. Do not play Elden Ring. If you want to play a souls game, only play DS3 or Bloodborne.

??? Gonna have to disagree with you on Sekiro In my experience, the average fighting gamer LOVES Sekiro. And by the same coin, the average Souls player HATES Sekiro. And the biggest difference is this: Sekiro is about mastery. Mastery of not only the sword (your only real weapon choice I the game), but also mastery of timing. Mastering of spacing. Mastering of location. Mastery of blocking. Mastery of parrying. Mastery of any and EVERY mechanic that's available to you. And because there's very little opportunity to cheese in Sekiro, you either learn or die. In other words: Sekiro is the closest to a fighting game experience in the Souls library. Strongly recommend to any FGC members out there.

I feel similar. The word you're looking for is "competition". Furthermore, that fighting games have a complexity to them that allows a higher degree of personal expressiveness in one's means of competing against another player. Winning *your* way, in a sea of many options and competing strategies, is what's satisfying; it really demonstrates your superiority.
