I’m sure whoever heads the dept got a percentage far better than that tho🙁 granted I don’t know the average profit. Was it 11 billion over predicted or in total? I worked in a company where right before Christmas the owner called the entire company outside and proceeded to tell us how we will not be getting any bonuses because the company made no money and it was basically our own fault. 3 months later we were moved into a brand new building with brand new furniture, TV's everywhere and they threw a big gala party for all the customers to show off the new office. So the executives had made a decision that buying a new building was way more important for the business than giving the employees some extra cash for christmas. It's truly psychotic

You'd burn through that allotment if you had kids or family responsibilities. Such a shitty company to work for. After I quit, I don't know if it was because of the law or because they wised up, they put into place separate time for people being sick, for people being on vacation, and for other emergencies where you could take time off and make up the hours and not have it count against you.

LOL. Probably twenty or so years ago at the place I just recently retired from, we went through a slow period and they didn't know how long it'd last. They offered something totally new to us, called "voluntary days off" - taking voluntary days off but WITHOUT pay, but only if you had used up all of your vacation time - NOT sick time. Lots of the people JUMPED at it, but not the usual ones who lived paycheck to paycheck, and the slow period only lasted a short while, but the "VTO" discussions NEVER died down, even until I retired a year and a half ago. Hell, I jumped at it myself. Lots of people weren't in the position to take it due to financial reasons, but lots could, like me. My problem was there were only two other people who could fill in for me, and they both had their "regular" lines to work, so I was mostly out of luck. Time off? HELL YEA. I worked for a small family business that always had a problem with turnover. At that point I had already been there several years. I suggested giving staff holiday pay or some kind of PTO, something. Owner said we got 5 paid bank holidays per the handbook (which was never referenced for anything official, if it was heavier it would have been a doorstop). I found that highly curious as I had been processing payroll hours (owner reviewed/officially submitted) and I know I never attributed any rank and file staff member's time to bank holidays. After that I made sure to.

Meanwhile other employees in my department with seniority were getting weekends, weeks off, and even months off. All I wanted was an extra day off with pay here and there. I don't work there anymore. When I left I had almost two weeks on the books and it took them 2 months to cash it out and get it to me, because they didn't notify corporate, kept my profile open, and had me on their schedule three months out. I couldn't even do anything with my 401k. I should've and could've taken them to court.

I’m a salaried manager and routinely work those kinds of hours, but I’d never expect a wage earner to do that, and definitely not without additional compensation. Labour laws in my country are pretty tight though: overtime is reckoned by hours worked in a day, and the minimum you can be paid is 3 hours. So if someone calls you in for 15 minutes of work, boom, 3 hours. Encourages good planning on the part of management.

I see a ton of comments about how bad their job is. These days there’s the most opportunities to get a job then ever. If you’re truly dreading going into work, change jobs!!! Don’t ruin your life over a job.

The new scam is "unlimited" paid time off. It sounds great at first but the catch is you can't take more than 1 week off at a time unless a VP approves it. Secondly, if you leave the company they don't have to pay you for accrued vacation time.
