Great video! I lived at Grand Forks AFB during that horrible flood in 97. What has stayed with me over the years is how I incredibly brave and resilient the citizens of Grand Forks were. They had to be. It’s like it wasn’t even a choice for them. I am very proud to have called Grand Forks home for 3 years of my life. I now live in Northern California, near the Paradise, CA where the Camp Fire destroyed a whole town in 2018. That whole terrible event reminded me of the 97 flood in ND. People sometimes have to dig so deep to be so brave.

I lived in the Greater Grand Forks the 8-years. I loved it. It is very quiet peaceful and lay back community where you could thrive and create your own personal activities to kill boredom and hide from bad temptations. The only problem I noticed was that the new Walmart store in Gateway Dr has been killing lots of small businesses. We lost lots of small stores and business. The big competitive stores also closed for they could no long sustain the competitive pricing with Walmart.

My mother actually designed those floodwalls, although the earthworks are not her's.

I move to GF about 3 years ago from Williston, ND. I remember being in high school and we had a bunch of transfer students from Fargo and GF there to finish their school year. Now that I'm here, I would not want to live anywhere else.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your home. I moved quite a few times growing up and know how painful it can be to leave behind friends and memories. A house is not a building; it's a home. From what I have read from other people's testimonies, people who lived there really felt at home and were very sad to leave.

Yeah now you have a city with one of the highest opiod and meth addiction rates, hmmmm wonder what Dr. Browns involvement has been since he so called built the town back up. The town I grew up in and everything that made it that town, died in the flood. Pat Owens was a rockstar mayor, the last good one.

Ya sure…meth and opiates are everywhere. While probably not as safe as it once was it is still a nice quiet mid size town town.
