Haven't seen this method before, thank you for the video. I'll have to give it a try.

@@justinblunt980 I tried this and it worked great. Is there any worry of wear on the rope since I believe this uses rope on rope contact which is usually a NO-NO.

Awesome video man! New subscriber. This method eliminates any mechanical devices also…. Not to mention it’s about 10x cheaper than grigri or madrock. Glad you included the 3rd hand too… just Incase people get a little too comfortable lol.

That's cool, I've seen like 6 different ways to repel with the 8, haven't seen this method using the brake. Thanks for sharing

I literally just got my ropes today. And my figure 8. So, are you not using a Prusik knot when you have your figure 8 tied that way? I know you said you still use your autoblock though.
@justinblunt980

No sir only an autoblock attached to my lineman loop or bridge loop. It’s just a back up in case something fails with the figure 8.

I use the 2tether method and if I went say 25 foot or above I would consider this,,but most of the time I hunt somewhere in the 16 to 17 foot area,,and to pack in an extra bundle of rope,,,in reality by the time that I got the extra bundle of rope out and tied in the figure 8 I would probably b close to the bottom of the tree,,but I will get one of these things and practice this method just because of the interest to learn it,,I have seen other techniques used this figure 8 as well,,would like to learn it,,seems to b healthy,,haha,,thanks for the video

I actually rappel down even if I climbed up sticks or a. Ladder stand lol! Just feels safer when coming down in the dark. I often use bolts on my private land for climbing and it's not as easy to find them coming down in the dark so rappel it is lol.

Have you tried one stick ascending with this so you don’t have to transfer to rappel up top?

You can also ascend using this configuration on a figure 8 with a hand ascender or Prusik with a foot loop.

So I did this today and while I liked the method it seemed as if the closer I got to the bottom the harder it got to release tension on the rope and when I reach the bottom the rope was all corkscrewed when I completely released it. Ever run into this?
@justinblunt980

No I haven't had a problem with the rope not feeding through the closer I get to the ground. I haven't used my figure 8 to rappel with in awhile I'll have to use it and see if this happens to me.

Can you show your tree tether setup? It looks like a bungee ball?
@justinblunt980

Thays exactly what your seeing in the video, a bungee ball. Just girth hitch it to your rope, put the ball in your loop and adjust for tension and it will hold your tether up.

The auto block is another rope attached to the repel line with a Prussic or whatever knot you use. If you let go of the figure eight or it releases somehow the auto block will catch you and keep you from falling to the ground.
@aidey8mph605

Yeah just look up a Prussik knot. It will bite on your rappelling line if the worst happens and you drop the rope. It is a very good idea to have one whenever rappelling so you don’t need to worry too much about taking your hand off the break strand.
