An excellent example of a true triple Lutz
No rotation missing on takeoff tapping foot (takes off backwards) and one-eighth pre-rotation on entry foot
One-eighth short of fully backwards on landing
Near 2 7/8 rotations in the air - as good as it gets
Maximum rotation rate about 4.6 per second
0.70 seconds in the air, 23.5 inches in height (0.60 m)
Notice the way the skater forces the outside edge as he reaches back to tap to assure a correct take-off edge. As he does, the upper body leads in the rotation, ahead of the hips, and the hips ahead of the tapping foot. Eventually the lower body and legs catch up. The air position is outstanding, and quickly achieved. Great height allows a lower rotation rate in the air to complete the jump. A bit of an extreme landing edge, but not a significant issue, in part due to landing nearly fully backwards.
What positive factors would you give this jump? (Our opinion in parenthesis)
1. Very good height and very good length (yes)
2. Good take-off and landing (yes)
3. Effortless throughout (maybe)
4. Steps before the jump, unexpected or creative entry (no)
5. Very good body position from take-off to landing (yes)
6. Element matches the music (maybe)
Note: 4, 5 or 6 can only be awarded if 1, 2 and 3 are all first achieved.
