Pretty helpful, but still cannot figure out charges on polyatomic ions without a transition metal. Why do nitrate or sulfate have only a -1 or -2 charge when they are in higher negative charge groups? I would assume they would be 9- and 10-.

Sir Is it somehow related to the octet or duplet concept? Like for lithium it's ion charge is +1 also it's electronic configuration is (2,1) it means it'll complete duplet by losing that +1 Like for nitrogen and oxygen (2,5) and (2,6) respectively and nitrogen ion charge is 3- (it'll complete octet if it gains 3 more electron) and oxygen ion charge is -2 (it will complete octet if it gains 2 more electron) Also all halogens reqd. +1 electron to become stable
@wbreslyn
Жыл бұрын
Yes, I like your thinking! And it is also related to the number of valence electrons. Like this: kzitem.info/news/bejne/0pmGvWqmkZ5kf3o
