The choice of my titles always responds to two instances: one evocative, related to the semantic universe of images, and one descriptive, related to the concrete and methodical world of compositional processes. Orizzontalità tese territories is no exception. In this work I continue to deepen my interest in the horizontality of sound materials, chosen and organized according to their possibility of fusion, to a concept of masking. That is, how to make instruments resemble each other in such a way that they are treated as virtual instruments in the service of a complex sound of a higher order? The attempt to make instruments resemble each other, so that a double bass blends in with a flute and a soprano sax with percussion, pushes me to explore directions of instrumental technique that surprise me each time and from which I learn a lot. For this reason, for me writing music means to wonder and every time I start working on a new composition, I always have questions that I have to solve. In Orizzontalità tese intentionally the rhythmic factor is somewhat nullified, as the materials used breathe in time and have their own horizontal relaxation that hardly matches a pulsating rhythm. While the harmonic component is deliberately unbalanced in favor of the timbral and gestural compartment.
