Originally, Ep.9 was supposed to be two episodes. I would have preferred if the first three episodes had been condensed into two, which would have allowed the final few episodes to breathe. Completely agree the series should have bookended differently. With Cleven and Egan reuniting in the USA (rather than the base), Crosby going home to his wife and son, and Rosie making the decision to go to Nuremberg. I even suspect that was the original ending, before the budget ran low. Those scenarios were what the series was building towards, and would have been the natural conclusion. Cleven and Egan were introduced at the home-front with Marge, Crosby was the Everyman who was worried he could not have a normal life after the war, and Rosie was the Jewish lawyer who was confronted with the devastating reality of what happened to his people.

I personally wouldn’t touch the first few episodes at all. 1 through 5 and honestly six are so good imo. But yes I would’ve extended this show a bit longer with an additional homecoming episode. The prison escape stuff is great and I like the great escape. But they spent a lot of time on it when it honestly didn’t amount to much. Especially with their plans to be ready to fight, escape or go on a death march. Probably scrap the D-Day part with Sandra and have a bit more of that, less of the prison stuff. I’d have added a series of scenes with Crosby and Jean reuniting during his R&R back home. Having that baby. 😂 Make it all feel conflicted to link up with his Niztsche quote in the final episode. The only other thing too is I would’ve liked a bit more love for the RAF and to showcase moments where they were working together well. Because as is the show makes it look like the one hundredth and the raf were always clashing. In crosby’s book, there are plenty of examples of both.

Egan and Clevin actually reunited in the Stulag Luft III in real life. What Bucky says to Egan is almost word for word what happened. I do however agree that the last few episodes needed much needed breathing room…For example I was so excited to see another adaptation of the Tuskegee Airmen because neither movie is that good..But I kept waiting and waiting and waiting until they finally showed up in Episode 8. There is no reason we should ever be introduced to plot essential characters in episode before the finale. I much would have preferred they cut unnecessary parts of the series to service the overall narrative. For example I would have completely cut Quinn and Bailey’s story from the series. It’s a great part of the show but it’s never continued and leaves a lot left to be desired. I would also cut Crosby’s POV of D-DAY. Normandy and the greater invasion of France was one of the most significant events of the war and a huge turning point. It’s insane they skipped it due to Crosby falling asleep. Especially when Rosie another main character was going through it…So why skip such a crucial moment of the war? Insanity. I would also sadly cut the Tuskegee airmen. I love their story but if it’s not going to be shown in its full glory then why show it? And aside from meeting each other in camp they never had anything to do with the 100th bomb group. They were stationed in Italy. The last episode should’ve been split into two parts with 9 showing the official end of the war in Europe and 10 being a home front episode like The Pacific. This is still a fantastic series…better than most of the garbage we get now days but it could’ve been structured so much better because it really is the black sheep of Tom Hanks and Spielbergs trilogy

I am not a veteran, but I am a 2 year LEO on the border here in El Paso, TX. The stuff first responders see day and day out and the stuff we have to deal with, nothing describes it. At 14:00, I remember crying after hearing Crosby say that. Fast forward to a few days ago at my grandmother's birthday after I talked about a call, and my dad (who is a 27 year firefighter) looks at me with both pride and sorrow in his eyes and says "goddamn, you've become hardened now" in the best playful way he can. I cried again when I got to my car..

I watched this through the eyes of a history buff. I've read a lot about the plight of the army air corps in WW II and the devastating losses they endured due to daylight bombing raids. I think this series did an excellent job showing just how terrifying it was for our brave airmen. I really enjoyed your reactions, and I agree; I, too, wanted more in certain areas, but overall, it is something the modern world should see, and always remember. I got the feeling that you feel the same way, judging by the empathy and admiration you show for our greatest generation. It really comes through in your reactions, so thank you for that.

Speaking of the subject of the Holocaust, there was a haunting film released this year that won 2 Oscars in the recent ceremony that I believe is worth watching: THE ZONE OF INTEREST (2023). The amazing thing is how it manages to convey the eerie atmosphere without explicitly showing anything. It beat OPPENHEIMER to win the Oscar for Best Sound (and deservedly so IMO), and the way THE ZONE OF INTEREST utilizes sound design is frankly next level.

It heartens me to know I'm not alone in feeling this way about the pace of the ending. I think the Tuskegees should have been introduced an episode earlier, show them for the whole third act as a B plot. The whole show definitely would have benefitted from an ending like the Pacific. Still a very good, very important story to have told

Operation Manna (29th april-7th may 1945) and Operation Chowhound (1-8th may 1945) was a joint operation between Britain, commonwealth, the americans and other allied nations to help relieve the Dutch famine of 1944-45. Over 11k tons of food was dropped combined to help feed the dutch. This was then followed up with Operation Faust which was land based relief. 18'000 to 22'000 died during the dutch famine. Possibly more

I feel the same way about the last episode wing rushed. I wished they showed more of the key moments of the group. I highly recommend reading the books that were used as the inspiration for the series. The first being Masters of the Air and second A wing and Prayer that was written by Crosby himself. The books goes into much more details about a number of the key missions that the 100th were a part of that were not seen in the show. I wished they showed that Rosie was actually shot down twice. The opening to this episode was actually the second time, he was also shot down in September of 44 over France where he was pulled from the wreck by France resistance fighter and sent back to England recovered and went back to flying missions. I wished more of the series were spent in the bomber as well, but I also under they can only show them going up getting and getting attacked, dropping bombs so many times and make it interesting and make it feel like your not watching the same thing over and over again. I just feel like a 10th episode would have given them more time to show a few other key moments of the group.

Had Ep.8 featured Rosie being shot down over Nuremberg and crashing in France, and Sandra telling Crosby about Jews disappearing from occupied territories. It would have added more depth to that episode and the finale. Since there would have been more context for what the audience was seeing, and would have tied all the storylines together better. For me, where the finale stumbles is after Rosie and Cleven return to Thorpe Abbots. As that is where the ending seems to be rushed and way too convenient.

Crosby was that angry about the equipment room. The way he said it was one of his navigators came to him saying the room was locked and they didnt have parachutes. They may have been masters of the air but going without a parachute would have been insane. After he broke down the door he then went to find the supply officer and his buddies and chewed them out. As he was doing so in his head he was thinking who is this crosby?

Air war is so much more exciting and entertaining to watch #facts I'm glad you've enjoyed it and as a follow up to it, I highly recommend you react to Red Tails (2012) - the story of the Tuskegee Airmen in combat. & Memphis Belle (1990) One of the first B25's to complete the '25' - They're both essential react-to material, as well as The Battle Of Britain (1969) & The Dambusters (1954) I love your reactions and I'm subscribed 😊 Keep up the fantastic work you do. Lots of love from the UK 🇬🇧

He was pulled out of the cockpit unconscious and shipped to a military hospital in England, where he woke up and spent the next month or so recovering. He was awarded his first Purple Heart and second Silver Star.

Harry and Sandra's relationship were contrived with the blessing of Harry's family realizing this was a movie not a documentary. I agree adding her and the Tuskegee Airmen to the plot was unnecessary. The 1995 Tuskegee Airmen with Laurence Fishburn, Cuba Gooding Jr and Andre Braugher is a pretty good movie, 2012 Red Tails not so much.

What do you mean who directed this it was Steven Spielberg last time I checked she’s got quite the impressive résumé so this time Hanks and that doesn’t include band of Brothers the Pacific and their latest release masters of the air yesterday Matthew here’s an extra saving Private Ryan and Schindler‘s list Spielberg is an excellent Director he also made Jurassic Park along with Indiana Jones and teamed up with George Lucas from 1977 to 2005 to make Star Wars. I say this not to be a jerk I say this is fact because I am a huge movie buff and I happen to be a big fan of Speelburg and Lucas films.

I sometimes wonder if any of the antisemitic service members that discovered these camps changed their views at all, because most racism is ingrained by their surroundings, and there are millions of stories of people realizing their mistakes once they got to know the people they were bigoted against... or saw one of the worst things humans can do to their brothers and sisters.
