I mean I personally don’t think it’s so much that we need a Fincher Batman ...But rather that Fincher has a dark, moody and neonoir style which a lot of comic book characters share, so there’s a lot of room for potential crossover. As a result whilst he’d work well with Batman, I think Daredevil is probably the character that would be best fitted for a David Fincher directed movie. Since Batman’s had the Burton treatment and the Nolan treatment so we’ve already seen so many actors and directors bring their interpretation leaving less room for Fincher to innovate. But with someone like Daredevil, if Fincher ever wants to make a superhero/comic booky film then that’s the character that he could have the most room to truly make his.

Hollywood has lost all original thought over 15 years ago. We used to get 15 really good movies a year that played for 4 months each. But now, we get over 100 movies a year, and maybe 6 good movies. Hollywood shifted so far towards trying to shape culture that it lost it's ability to entertain.

This is a wonderful idea. It not only gives a sense of how Gotham effects the average citizen, but it also gives true leeway and freedom to tell stories that are connected to Batman, but don’t have to change what we know him to be. If more writers would think this way instead of “I can make a better Batman than what they’ve already done”, then we would get better content. People need to stop trying to do Year One better than Year One, or redo Dark Knight Returns their way. Leave established shit alone, and fill in the damn blanks. It’s really not that hard of a concept.

My fan theory: Mills is allowed to side step prison and quits the force after the brutal death of his wife and unborn child. He's broken beyond comprehension but tries to live a normal life. He changes his name, gets an office job and a nice apartment. He tries to bury his guilt and pain by buying nice things to an almost obsessive level. But his broken psyche can't be mended for long and he begins to develop insomnia. The sleepless nights take hold and Mills begins to crack bit by bit. He starts losing time due to blackouts, waking up in a dilapidated abandoned house every now again. Its always the same house. He tries and tries to keep his normal life together but the darkness from his past is too hard to just ignore and one day he just snaps. The broken Mills and the fake in denial Mills come head to head. And start a fight club.

You could even take this a step further as it could be taken as an origin story for the Joker. David Mills final moments, when they say that they will get him the help that he needs, could be his first visit to Arkham Asylum. After having his world shattered by the death of his pregnant wife in such a brutal manner, his mind followed. Years of therapy and/or torture was repressed by the doctors there to only be released again by one particular psycho therapist, Johnathon Crane, ie Scarecrow. The combination of his current psychosis, the nightmare drug of Crane, and the anarchy that followed made him completely lose his mind and rationalize that the world should just burn. This could explain many of abilities of the character in The Dark Night. Police are trained in hand to hand(the pencil scene) firearms (shooting at the bat mobile), driving(after escaping the police) and several other skills shown in the movie by the Joker. His familiarity with police procedure (response times at the beginning with the buses and while he is in custody), knowing the honor guard ritual, and why they can't make an ID off of him (he erased his own files). All these things are within the wheelhouse of an inner city cop. As for the scars and where he got them, likely self inflicted while in a drug fueled blitz thanks to his lovely psycho psycho. But I really don't have anything to back that up.

I love how at the end of the opening discussion revolving around the straight ambiguity of their location... There is IN FACT a Giant Poster saying "New York Pizza." I know it doesn't technically mean they are in the Big Apple but it was just comical.

That is a clear indication that it is not New York, no one refers to it as New York pizza here lol

Has anyone (and I'm sure they have) noticed that in the 1989 BATMAN the guy that plays Joker's 'Number 1' also played in the GOTHAM t.v. series? Although, I don't know what character he plays in the series, he does wear the same trench coat and fedora style hat. Interesting.

The guy at 01:53 is the same actor as the police officer getting interrogated by batman in Batman Begins, as seen in this scene: kzitem.info/news/bejne/1ZB6moWpgnyinH4

Maybe Matt Reeve’s Batman is connected? At least in our own head canon it can be (It is in mine) considering the aesthetic of both films are very similar I’d totally except an official answer that it is indeed or at least heavily inspired by Se7en

It may be a restaurant that sells New York style pizza, doesn't necessarily mean it's in New York.

Well both are heavily noire versions heavily inspired by newyork city life. But im pretty sure gotham isnt near a desert where as 7 has a desert portrayed by the mojave far north of LA but made to look just outside so i think 7 is more LA Noire

Yeah of course. I think these film theory videos are more confirmation bias of acknowledging elements that support the theory and ignoring parts that don’t. This video is no different to me. Se7en definitely isn’t in Gotham, but fans can imagine it and find small clues supporting this if they want.

Lol I was just thinking how the city in the film reminded me a lot of Gotham City throughout as I was watching the film. The high level of crime, the living conditions of a lot of the people of the city, how it’s dark and moody and always raining throughout the film etc. There are a lot of similarities. Even the fact that John Doe’s motive was partially made up of wanting to punish corrupt individuals in society for their sins. It just summarises the type of individuals you would see in Gotham City and this part of his motive just screams Joker - where Arthur ends up killing those who did wrong to him and finally fights back after how he felt society treated him and others like him.

This is one of the more solid fan theories that I've seen so far. I use to read a comic called Hellshock that was written and illustrated by Jae Lee. To me it was the comic equivalent of Seven. I also thought would've made a fantastic Spawn film. As for Batman why not.

Since Nolan used Thomas Lennon as the doctor in Dark Knight Rises and Memento, this means that Se7en and Memento are in the same city. But while the DKT was shot in NYC, chicago, and Pittsburgh, and Memento was obviously shot in LA, and we don't know for sure where Se7en was filmed... All we can know is that Gotham is frikken huge!

My theory is that Somerset and Fox are 2 different people played by the same actor like Chris Evans playing 2 marvel characters: Human Torch and Captain America. Brad Pitt doesn't go on to become Joker he becomes a version of the villain Lock-Up. A villain from Batman The Animated Series who was a ruthless guard at Arkham. One of the doctors operating on the Sloth victim could go insane and become The Scarecrow as well.

At 1:54 if you look to the left you can see something that’s says New York pizza, though the pizza place could be advertising that it has New York pizza and not that a pizza place is in New York. Anyway great video
