Mig is very down to earth with his descriptions and discussions. I really appreciate his presentation on why his products are what we modelers need and not just a sales pitch.

I know it's a long time ago you made this video. So I hope you get this. I appreciate your time and knowledge. I am subscribed and I wanted to say. I was an instructor in law enforcement for many years. You are one of the best instructor I have seen in a long time. You are easy to understand, you are very complete with your instruction. You keep the attention of your students and make it interesting. You are very knowledgeable in your subject. I could go on for long time on how good you are. I just though it was important to let you know what I have seen in the way you teach. You are a very good instructor.

I have to agree with you 100%. He is so good with his instructional videos. Currently working my way through a 3 hour tutorial he did at Modellbau Konig in 2022. Just brilliant tips and advice, backed up with great easy to understand demonstrations of his work. He is also very clever in the way he paces his speech, not too fast nor too slow..

His tutorials are amazing. He’s really helped me elevate my models over the years. My goal is to win a best of show someday and he’s helping me get there. Going to use some filters on my latest project which is Tamiya’s 1/48 HE-219. Cheers!

I've seen Mig say that Tamiya is not an acrylic paint in both this video and in FAQ2, which I was just reading yesterday. I don't want anyone to be misled - Tamiya is 100% an acrylic paint. Acrylic paints are defined by the acrylic resin used as a hardener. Oil paints use an oil that slowly hardens over time, acrylics use acrylic resin. They can be mixed with many different solvents, which are independent of the acrylic portion of the paint! Vallejo paints are acrylic paints with water as the solvent. You can't put lacquer in these for the same reason that you can't mix lacquer thinner and water - it floats in the water and won't mix. Tamiya paints are an acrylic paint with an alcohol solvent. They can be thinned with lacquer because lacquer and alcohol mix well, apparently. Tamiya smells fine if you use it straight with no lacquer thinner. Mr. Color, AK Real Colors and MRP paints are also acrylic paints, but they use a lacquer solvent, not alcohol. MRP and AK say right on the package that they are "acrylic lacquers" - an acrylic resin based paint mixed with a lacquer solvent. For some reason we call these lacquer paints. You wouldn't call Tamiya paints "alcohol paints" or Vallejo "water paints", but we call Mr. Hobby a "lacquer paint". BTW there are other "lacquer" paints. Hobby paints are acrylic lacquer, but there are also "nitrocellulose" lacquers and I think a few others.

Muy buenos comentarios acerca de cuál es el alcance de esta técnica, ayuda acerca de que es para nosotros los modelistas "normales" y no para podios en concursos de alto nivel que requieren técnicas más laboriosas y lentas 👍

Do you clear coat before applying the filter? or do you want to apply it on the actual paint layer? Awesome video by the way.
@thedon008

+Brett Bricker In modeling, I don't know of a technique that requires clear coat. You can use varnish if you want to protect what is under it, but a clear coat is pretty extreme. And with filters, I don't think it's necessary. I use it when I use washes and streaking.

Thanks for the reply. I should have stated "gloss varnish" instead of "clear coat". You answered my question thoroughly. :)
@thedon008

Brett Bricker You should use matte varnish, or sating, depending on what you use over it (pigments over matte, for example). Gloss varnish is not that good since it makes things shiny and products won't stick to it well. Matte varnish doesn't change the surface that much and it has little pores to cling onto for the products that come after.

i see you know stuff about varnishes, so i have one question. How to prevent frosting/varnish getting white colour? i was painting my tank and had to varnish it before applying wash. i used satin varnish and it all turned white.
