If no water flow, the sand is clay at that point. Sand change is a good idea.

Is it normal to have some sand in the bottom of a pool after sand change? I had none last year, and changed the sand at the beginning of the season this year (about 2 weeks ago), and there's a little building up in spots at the bottom. I have no sightglass, backwash to a storm drain, and my laterals are fixed, not hinged- so I couldn't get the assembly out for a thorough inspection. Everything seemed ok, as far as I could tell. Thanks

So when you backwash it (after it’s all changed) that’s what fills the filter back up with water? I don’t have to fill it up with water?

My Hayward Sand Filter says 350 pounds, so 7 bags of 50 pounds? That seems like it would be way to much sand coming up to the Top of the Sand Filter lol

See the label on the side for the amount of sand needed for your filter.
