That was an excellent demonstration of filtering oil and the clarity of the output. Thank you. I have been meaning to clean some and make wood treatment with diesel. But, was never sure how to the used oil clear so the wood dosn't just look all black.

I have a Farm Mechanics magazine from 1920 that showed cleaning oil by putting the oil in a bucket and draping a cotton rope over the edge into a lower bucket and letting the clean oil siphon into the lower bucket. A little slower but it works.

I soaked my 12X6 Trailer deck with straight up used motor oil back in 2017 and I had installed a new floor two years before that and the wood had dried out and was starting to crack. Flash forward to now my floor is still doing great. I used a a roller and that floor inhaled that oil like a crack head.

Double filter it and reuse in the pump or get you a boiler to run the used oil and heat the garage.

I found another way. you need two containers one above the other. Put the old oil in the upper container get a pure cotton rope. Put the cotton rope into the container with the used oil, and then put the other end of the rope into a clean container. You might want to add some fresh oil to help start the wicking action. The cotton rope will absorb all the oil and it will flow into the clean container, absorbing all the impurities it takes a while.

About the only difference is between yours and regular bar/chain oil is adding a little Lucas or STP for stickyness. Toots got a freeze drier and the vacuum pump on it uses the same stuff. She runs hers through a coffee filter and reuses it. You could get a small pump and run it through a truck fuel filter or oil filter, a spin on if you get one with the base so you can put the fittings and lines if you want to and maybe run it back through the truck pump again. So Happy camping and GBWYall!

I've used engine oil for bars since the seventies. Never caused a problem. When salesmen try to say bar oil is special and engine oil isn't as good I ask them if it makes sense to claim oil to preserve $50 worth of machinery is better than oil designed to preserve a machine worth thousands, who do you think did more research? Never got a coherent answer to that. So I still use the same oil I run in my generator. Both the generator and saw blades last for many years. (Last bar made 12 years of firewood here in Alaska)

@@jerrystott7780 The only difference is a little Lucas or STP/Motor Honey added to get it to stick better. The only thing that won't work for long is used oil. It'll gum up the intake screen and the pump'll burn out. Seen it happen too much.

We sell our sawdust to an oil recycling company. They also collect food fryer oil for disposal. They mix the sawdust with the cooker oil in a 20 yard roll off dumpster with a mini excavator. Then it goes to the landfill.

@@philipgunnell108 The company we sell Sawdust to is not set up to make Biodiesel because the waste oil they get is the bottom 1/3 with all the chunks of food. Up until a year ago it was not cost effective to clean and filter the chunky oil. Now that the current administration is causing the price of fuel to skyrocket, it might make sense to look into the cost effectiveness of cleaning and filtering the chunky oil for use as biodiesel. Good question Philip.
