Some backgrounds here: Fimi seems to be a project team of Xiaomi, their business pattern is simple and brutal: flitting from 1 project to the next - wherever a buck can be quickly made... By directly stealing the design from DJI, they are able to obtain more users real quick. I won't call it a competition, it's more like stealing the fruits from other's labor.

This is what dji did in the past when there was Mk coptors and priced over 1200 buck at least, one day there was a Chinese company called dji released similar products half the price even one third the price. Even when dji is very big and famous, they copied a small company directly for the osmo mobile 3(copied from the snoppa atom), this is the crutial bussiness.

@andreasbuder4417

I actually prefer the narrower field of view, because I often use it on a rig with a regular DSLM and the jump between different fov in real time is not as dramatic. And with the wide angle adapter, I actually get two fov in one camera. Much more useful to me than being stuck with ultra wideangle. Second big win is actually the phone adapter you criticize. Then you have a much better display to work with, and it ALWAYS works in a matter of 2 seconds. WiFi is a hit and miss no matter the camera and often doesn’t work, when you are out in the field and it drains battery.

I've watched tons of video reviews and comparisons in the last few days. I think the Fimi Palm looks like the best one to buy, until DJI come out with a v2 of their pocket. Built in WiFi, joystick seem good improvements. Mic is a shame though as in all tests it basically sounds rubbish. Joystick seems to click badly and be heard on any sound you might record as well. You need to buy a 3rd party travel case as well for it. It comes with a rubbish little cap, but there are ones that look like the dji protector for < £10. DJI can reclaim the crown with v2 if they include a joystick that is silent, wifi and bluetooth out of the box, and a wider lens. I think the Snoppa is probably the best for being the only one I've seen that supports a bluetooth mic.

The reason that I’m looking for an alternative to my Pocket is that it’s mic has failed and DJI is charging me $220 to have it fixed. I can continue to use my Pocket for 80% of the time as the mic is only required for video. Timelapse, slo-mo, panorama and taking still photos all don’t require the mic, so $220 is ridiculous......I might as well buy this Palm or the other knockoff by Snoppa. What do you think?

I have the Pocket and use it a lot. The Fimi has some features OP should always have had. But the best device would be a mixture of both with a price in between: around 250,- dollars, 100mm focal length, build-in wifi/bt/mic in/flat profile/mount at the bottom/4K60. For OP owners there are few reasons for a switch. For newcomers the Palm will be a good start if they do not shoot sports which require 60fps or more cinematic scenes that benefit from the narrower field of view. The Palm will make many OP owners, including myself, feel even more disappointed by DJI policy to force consumers to buy loads of over-priced accessories (like controller, wifi-module, and audio adapter...). DJI should really consider reconsidering this strategy. I would love to have a mixture of both which I could slide in a magic mini like drone as with that gopro drone.

I thought the same while watching. Especially one thing is bothering me: - FOV is a personal matter of taste and a question of what is more suitable in which situation. I prefer the narrower FOV of DJI that allows a shallow depth of view, which is not mentioned at all! In the video this item is presented in the favour of FIMI. Here's what's missing: - DJI offers 3x3 panorama also in RAW - that's a 50MP RAW photo you can get. - the physical connection is transferring data way faster, wifi is not the better solution, it is different (again presented in the favour of FIMI); you can get wifi for Osmo as accessory (not mentioned) - Motion Time-lapse with DJI works great all the time - I had lots offer errors and and jerky movement with Palm. - With DJI you can track every object, with FIMI just detected faces and that is not always working fine. - you can get a joystick for DJI, again an optional accessories, but worth mentioning, especially since the wheel is smoother than the joystick. - Framerates are a bigger deal than mentioned when, would have been clear with slowmo comparison shots Besides the overtone that the winner was already decided before shooting the review, it is a comprehensive and well structured video which I enjoyed to watch - Great work!

I get the point regarding the color contrast, however as mentioned you can use a flat mode or set up your own flat mode if you are going to do post production but a lots of people will not go on post production to apply luth etc... For the people who are going to use the footage straight from the box with no color edit, it s à more pleasant render. i have noticed that details are lost on the sky filmed with the dji. Also i think he mention the WiFi as a plus not for the transmission SPEED but because it might be more convenient as it allow wireless usage

one major difference i can see between the two cameras is depth of field. the osmo pocket seems to have more depth of field when focusing close compared to the fimi palm which seems to have a focus both close and far at the same time, so the osmo pocket wins in that regard. another one is the 4k60 that the osmo has but the palm doesn't. which i understand that it isn't "needed", but its a good feature to have for sports so you can slow the footage down to 50%. It will also look smoother. I know because I used the osmo pocket at work and i always kept it on 4k60, but changed it to 4k30 once and regretted it instantly. wasn't a huge deal but still hurt

I LOVE that Wide Angle look... BUT... when you took it inside to your studio, all of a sudden I realized I would be doing TONS of post zooming because it tossed you way to far away from me. When you have a combo of outdoor and vlog, you will end up doing a lot of zooming in for the vlog portion. If you only do outside... then the wide angle is great. I would prefer it be an "option" in the software or an attachment. Some video work is better done at the equipment and not at the post production.

Defiantly the FIMI Palm! I'm afraid if I purchase the the current OSMO Pocket the Pocket II will come out right after lol, it's almost time for a refresh and updated specs.

I love my Osmo Pocket but I really like some of those built-in features in the Fimi Palm and for quite a bit less money!

I’m not one that likes to color grade in post, and I like the wider angle lens, and, wow, I just like the color of the Fimi. I don’t care about 60fps (24 is all I need), and I don’t like built in audio on anything. So I’ll take the Fimi! (Plus, I wonder if the DJI will even work near airports or sporting events! 🤣). So, my only question would be: which is easier to run an external mic on?

For me the 26mm lens on the Pocket was such a relief after the wider lens on action cameras. I wish it was narrower, around 35mm equivalent. Thus I think the Fimi footage looks terrible with that fisheye look. The Pocket remains one of the best cameras I ever bought, for my purposes.

Did you test low night and photo, and compare the software, firmware updates? 😩

With the zoom capability on the Fimi, you should have done your testing (especially the follow mode) at the same closeup format for true comparison. However, with many build-in feature that would cost extra on the Osmo, this appears to be a better choice. Can you add an external to the Fimi?

The Osmo has more depth of field and thus creates a more cinematic look .

Just like anything, it depends what you are doing. If it is general , everyday type things, then the Fimi at the cheaper price might be good for you. But if you want more professional, then go with the Osmo.

It’s not difficult for a knock off to be better than original. Because it already learned from the mistakes and had time to improve. DJI was released back in 2018. Plenty of time to fix the issues. Let’s see what DJI will do with Osmo Pocket 2.

Never heard of this Fimi brand before, but in my opinion it has much better color profile, more saturated, more detail, compare to washed-out color in Pocket, plus wider lens, joystick, more battery capacity, built-in wifi and bluetooth, and much cheaper.... damn.... although I agree Pocket's microphone is much better, but still... damn... I wish Pocket 2 will has significant improvement then. Great video sir.

Very good review thanks for sharing! I'm recording videos with my XIaomi phone with 48MP and 4k but I feel they boost the color and I don't like it. Thinking between these 2

I am looking for an answer to the question of how the camera changes scenes: front - back - front, in DJI it was done by pressing one button once or several times.
