Has anybody else noticed that they decoy better with species specific decoys in the spread?

I have found here in the southern part of Kansas the more diverse an colorful your spread is the better any ducks decoy and that if you can mimic the natural sounds of a pintail while having them in the spread the more likely you are to shoot more of them. So I would say yes it definitely helps having them in the spread because it sure did help me towards the end of this years season!

My buddy throws out about 6 dozen regular. Mix of mostly mallards with some green-winged teal. He claims his success on how you spread them rather than what you spread. Spreading them in a natural formation to their species, like teal being closer together than mallards for example. Not sure how pintails naturally spread tho

I have a couple dz of them they are very very nice. But I made a couple adjustments to mine to make them look real. I cut the sprigs off some cuz not all pintails have long sprigs I personally think it makes a difference in appearance.

Year before last we had a strong season on pintails, running only mallard decoys. Based off that we picked up a dozen pintails for this past season. We didn’t shoot a single pintail or even see any, go figure lol. Our area was drier than the year before as well. We were pushed to big water versus the shallow water private land we had the previous year. Long story short, definite pattern shift based off water.

Good review. Want to see your comments numbers go up. Just offer the sponsored decoys as prizes to commenters. Over flight to nest in the boreal and artic those birds went probably last year. Only 20% of the numbers since the 1980's in pintails

Try Dux Nutz for the rigging. They work great for open salt water. I used them for my Canada decoys. They have smaller rig set!

Where I'm at pintails are hard to find and I shot my first and only pintail over three of those decoys. I do a mixed spread of mallards, wigeon and pintails floaters and avian x motion decoys with a spinner (sadly ether pull string or wind powered) and had a great year with a ton of mixed bag days. but im hunting mainly flooded farm fields near deep saltwater and a river delta. Only my third year and first successful year.

Sweet video! I’m definitely not an expert, but I’ve noticed that ducks (where I hunt in TX) will land closer to the decoy species that’s the same as them. Especially Wood ducks and teal. Thank you for the review and advixe

No different amount of pintail decoys in the spread, 6 or less. Shot way more pintails this year! My guess is they did better with the drought conditions in the prairie pothole region

I think it's coincidence. I did start running FA shovelers as a transition decoy from a pod of divers into dabbler decoys and shot about the same amount of dabblers as usual but also decoyed divers in closer. (in areas where mixes were a possibility)

Up here in MN I have never shot pintails before and I have hunted for 7 years now and this year I shot 8 and don’t run any pintail decoys I think it’s just a coincidence

Unless you seen it for yourself you wouldn't believe me dont waste your money on super high dollar decoys we hunt with alot of black tarred 2.5 gallon jugs every kind of duck and goose will pile right into them so you can't tell me there's a huge difference. We have real decoys mixed in but nothing expensive waste of money

I do think that pintails like to see pintails decoys but we saw more than ever here in Missouri and they seemed to be more cooperative than usual
