He achieved significant commercial success during the 1950s and 1960s, with hits like "El Paso," "A White Sport Coat and a Pink Carnation," and "Devil Woman." Robbins also acted in several films and television shows, including the Westerns "Buffalo Gun" and "Guns of a Stranger." He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1982, shortly before his death.
