Grapes9h5 it was good but not great. Especially when it came to flying enemies. They have no physics and seem to ice skate around randomly like an nba2k character. The combat feels extremely rushed. There is no real enmity system when a game like this really needs it. The whole idea of not using items in hard mode just says how rushed it was. Items, abilities, and magic economy is one of the pillars of rpg combat. It should be balanced and there should be a reason to use all of them. FF15 did this style of combat a little better.

I do not really see anything turn based with FF VII remake. You do have an "ATB" yet at the same time turns are is not "speed/initiative" stat limited because you can hit things on your own and that also charge it. The system works a lot like EX from street fighter in that department. Limit breaks works like Ultra. FF VII remakes combat is purely action and if you look at how people play more optimal there is no need to have it slow down time because the game is more or less made to be played with the shortcuts and beforehand knowledge. It is a combo fighting game. It by then look action, is action and the ATB bar only works as a "super" like in other games where you need some resource to preform actions that doesn't start at full. These exist in many things, like League of Legends on certain characters. ATB is only a secondary resource, not actual turns. If we count slowing down as becoming turn based then FF XV, which can have you stop time by being inactive for a short period of time is a turn based combat system. Really great system. Awesome system. But dunno see why people see this as turn based.

@vincentgraymore
3 жыл бұрын
@@Lyu-Phy I would agree, except that it is not a mix. The ATB in FF VII remake is additional resource management, not anything to do with "turns" even in a non-traditional sense. One could argue that it is similar to FF XII because free roaming, except that ATB do limit any action you can make in that game. That is a hybrid system. FF VII remake is very much like FF XV (free combo attacks and movement, block and dodge) but with an additional resource to handle that is gained passively and increased with dealing damage. It is purely just an additional resource management side by side with MP. Just because it is powerful/dependent and a very used resource does not make it turn based. FF XV is not considered hybrid nor turn based yet offers a complete time stop (but very clunky as you need to wait a few seconds for it to start). If people keep calling FF VII remake turn based or hybrid then the game did not only destroy the loose definition of remake but also the ability for people to even realize what turn based actually mean. This does not mean that it is a bad system, it is awesome but people should really stop calling this turn based or include that in any sentence (the developers themselves too). There is a turn based option in FF VII remake, which most people call a joke and even more people never play with, which is not awesome.

Ayy, finally someone else who favors Final Fantasy X’s CTB system. It was such a disappointment when X-2 went back to ATB style, but I cannot deny the great job-change system of the sequel, nevertheless. I just prefer more time to think when I make my decisions (and don’t like to feel rushed to get into a menu on Wait Mode in ATB to stop enemies from attacking me), and being able to manipulate the turn order added a great air of strategy and control over battle. It was also always so satisfying seeing an action happen immediately after inputting the command, instead of waiting for bars to fill. You just get a cleaner and more controlled battlefield that way, with immediate gratification. Not to mention, being able to input commands for summons was awesome, instead of just watching an animation. CTB needs to make a return one of these days, but alas, ‘tis but a pipe dream.

FF14 combat, as brilliant as the game is as a whole, is truly not the best :( While I love the game, and still prefer it to many other systems, the Global cooldown being so long, and the "clunky"ness of the flow, can be really jarring. There's only one class where the combat flows naturally with that system ( in my opinion that is ), and that's the dancer, since it's very mobile and the skills can be used on the fly, making it a more engaging experience . FF14 combat is showing it's age, and if they ever release another MMO (Unlikely, FF14 is doing amazingly ), with a more action focused combat, I believe it would be a massive success. The problem is the amount of resources and money needed for that in this day and age :(

@@Lctl10 MMO gameplay can be legendary and appealing as well. Even tho it's a bit different. FF14 is a massive success already. Not everything needs to be full blown over the top michael bay action.

@@Lyu-Phy bear in mind I never said it wasn't a success... Im saying that gameplay as evolved beyond the technical limitations from when FF14 was born. Bear in mind, i really enjoy ff14 as a whole, but one of its limitations is indeed the combat, which is very stiff, and ironically, floaty at the same time. One of the reasons ff14 didnt gain more traction, is that. People tend to prefer combat that feels lighter and more "grounded". Ff14 combat relies heavily on positioning and thats nor for everyone. The other aspect, that has been addressed a few times, is the double edged sword of story driven gameplay. Where people are locked out of progression or playing content with friends, due to story gating. Combine these two reasons, and its easy to see why ff14, as successful as it is ( and rightfully so ), didnt explode more into a juggernaut. Funny you mention michael bay, since ff14 is one of the flashier mmos out there :D. At this point, I would say ff14 is "suffering" from success syndrome. Its so good, that square cant pull the plug, but they also see no need to waste money in a new entry, with updated mechanics or engine ( which would also be a gamble and they would risk alienating their fan base ). Game is amazing, but its not without faults :) and thats something the community agrees with, especially the vanilla experience of ARR, that kills new players before they even get to understand what a diamond this game is

Personally I like the Turn-Based Active Time Battle. I thought it was a "revolution" since FFVI and FFVII which were my introduction with the Franchise. I have mixed feelings about the FFVII Remake having an Action Battle System that it doesn't make me think it's FFVII. I felt that FFVII had lost it's Identity. I like Final Fantasy X and I can put up with the Characters' voices and it's fashion, but I don't like the Sphere Grid System. 😡 It's so complex and confusing in my opinion!

Most FFs had a good battle system. Except 15. Not sure why magic and summons were so off on 15. Only Noctis's sword skills were fun.

With the "new" call system, it kinda does ye. :) It's a fairly good game, but the trap is that while the Characters are "free", they're useless unless you pull their proper weapons :)

FF7 Remake's battle system is revolutionary. It's so good that it makes us think 'why hasn't anyone done this before'? We were so caught up on either preserving the sanctity of classic turn-based combat, or make full use of new hardware with riveting action real-time combat, until FF7 Remake just walked into the bar and said "Why not both?" Absolutely genius. I really like FFX's addition on the list too. It's a strong example of gameplay that can't be replicated in real-time combat.

For me it's 3)traditional turn based 2)atb 1)ff7r atb I love action rpgs such as kingdom hearts, but I didn't like ff15's battle system at all. Kh2 is still my favorite game of all time because of it's battle system. Also, I think Chrono trigger has the best version of the atb system when it comes to the traditional turn based games (ff6-ff9). I love the combo attacks in chrono trigger and I'd love to see it implemented with ff7r's combat system in the future.

Unpopular opinion here, but my favourite ATB system if FFX-2's where they got rid of the turn by turn completely and characters and ennemies act simultaneously if their gauge is full, I feel like battles are for more realistic and fast-paced while still retaining the tactical aspect. As for going forward with mainline titles, I hope they go for something similar to VIIR, now that they've finally found something that most people seem to enjoy.

Ff8 junctioning and combat would of been cool if it wasnt so easy to abuse. Ff7r combat is great but don't think it had quite the level of customisation as the og materia system, be good to see how it expands in part 2. Still remember how cool it felt to control summons in ffx. It's a great game.

10 12 13 13-2 8 would be my top 5 I really like 10-2s battle system as well but eh its not a top 6 and I feel that the junction system is really underrated and deserved a place. Also World of Final Fantasy is really good and would probably be in 5th place but its not a mainline title. Not played the 7 remake but I heard it copied things from 13 so guess I'll like it. I enjoyed 15 and 5 too. I guess 7 and 9 are OK as well lol

The things that make FFVII Remake combat's the best combat system in every FF game for me isn't just the combat system, but the fact that every enemy encounters and boss battles are designed around that combat system. This is something past Final Fantasy games have never achieved imo

I understand why you put FF10’s system on top, and I agree. But after many years it’s hard for me to roll with a full turn based system anymore. That’s why I absolutely love FF7R’s: is an amazing system on its own and a huge step up from FF15’s. With some polishing can be extremely fun, frenetic and yet still strategic. Probably a good chunk of it’s quality comes from the materia and weapon upgrade systems, but I do hope Square will implement this formula also in FF16
