I bought Final Fantasy Tactics when I was 15 (about June 2002). when I first played, I got about halfway through the first chapter and wasn't feeling it. The only reason I even bought the game was because I was a stupid, silly cloud fanboy and knew that he was in it. I didn't actually start appreciating the game until years later, after playing FF12 and finally falling in love with the world and music. when it came particularly to the music, I remembered the soundtrack of Tactics being beautiful, which led me to go back in ernist. One track in particular has stuck with me, being the hero's theme, a track that marked major points in Ramza's story. It often brings me to one of the strongest moments in the game, Blade of Grass. That moment has always left an impact on me... Ramza, a young man wanting to bring equality to noble and commoner alike. Delita, a commoner seeing the glaring difference between the 2 of them, and feeling useless for it. That was an impactful moment that for some reason drove me to, since starting 16 years prior, pushed to finally see the story to its end. It was to the point where I honestly cared more about Ramza and bringing his journey to a close once and for all, rather than getting Cloud, who was my whole reason for having the game in the forest place. As I've grown, I've learned to appreciate Tactics, and its deep beauty, including the beauty of a character that originally, I did not like, but grew to love

Any FF Tactics character is an automatic must-watch. I would love to see another character in this game roster get covered in the near, or distant future. (Hint: We need a Delita video, and one that talks about the parallels/foils between him and Ramza)

Ramza is the symbol of justice, he has pure heart, he seeks no glory, he just do things because that's the right thing to do he believe in his cause, and he does everything he can to make things right what a character, he's my favorite character of all time, of any video game, his personality is the best, the true hero, unsung hero

I found it both ironic and poetic how Ramza despite not getting fanfare or power never the less got to live in peace with the sister he loves while Delita, the liar and murderer becomes the new king and celebrated champion of the people, only to get a knife in the gut from the woman he loves. Well, at least until FFXIV retconned Ramza to being forever trapped with Altima anyway...

God, this is beautiful video.. A tribute to the underrated character ever. My take on Ramza is that this is the knight should have been.. The ending left a bittersweet feeling in my chest tho. After everything he done, he still branded as a monster by the people and it took so long to finally clear his name..

Played FFT due to the FF7 hype, loved the game because of it's interesting story, characters, and the myriad selection of Jobs/Hybrids.

To my mind, about the only way to balance character crossovers between FF worlds is to use the FFT template: Primary (XP/JP earning) Job, Secondary Job, Reaction Skill, Support Skill, Move Skill.

i think what sets Ramza apart is that he has no special powers except "Chant" which him and delita can only use. which is sacrifice HP to give to someone else. it show's Ramza's true power is selflessness above all else. not to mention a good portion of his followers are either followers from the academy, people he saved, fellow mercenaries, members of the Lionsguard and a sword saint. all willing to fight and even die to help Ramza.

We absolutely need a new Matsuno Tactics. Not Advance and not War of the Visions. A new FFTactics, a new cast, new plots, his awesome political narrative. Man that would be incredible. Ramza is by far my favourite protagonist. The struggles he endures and the character development was incredible.

Final Fantasy Tactics is probably my favorite Final Fantasy game of all time. I understand it may not be the best, but in terms of strategy it was hands down leagues above anything else in the series. Final Fantasy up until that point has always been associated with a 'brute force' play style. Heal and Attack were really the core of your options in these games and not much else. If you grinded hard enough your time attacking and healing would be reduced significantly. Tactics had elevation, a 'turn based' system that could be manipulated and a more thought out strategy akin to Ogre's (which was far less forgiving). Every decision mattered in that game. From the Jobs you chose, from the skills you learned and paired, the equipment worn, the tile your characters stood on, the direction they faced, the magic you cast and on which turn, your unit's positioning on the field and even in the worst case an unceremonious death for the character you named, trained and battled with. The game had a fantastic job system which to this day is my favourite of all time and one of the best stories in the series. Ramza stands apart from his spiky hair relatives as a character. He's a tragic figure and I think I relate to that more easily rather than the newer Final Fantasy games.

Shame that FFT is still much better than garbage they releases today they call Final Fantasy. They should bring back Matsuno and stop relying on one-dimensional hacks.

Not sure if other folks brought this up, but FFT was the third attempt at the gritty fantasy story that Mutsuno did. Actually almost the entire story and most of it's characters resemble the Chaos route of Tactics Ogre on the SNES. Hell, that game starts with two back to back genocides. Interestingly, the higher ups basically brought Matsuno in after seeing Tactics Ogre and Ogre Battle (same series, same story, different mechanics), and told him to make a Final Fantasy like that. Unfortunately, the US release of Tactics Ogre came at the same time as FFT, and while TO had the richer story, FFT looked a hell of a lot better, so it basically got shot by itself. The PSP remake down the road did much better, and brought in a lot of things from FFT and Vagrant Story. The Ogre series is like if you took the FFT setting, but combined it with a New Vegas esque system of choice and reactions. I mean hell, I was surprised to get an ending in Ogre Battle where a newly crowned saint had me assassinated. Everything you do is judged, and it's super interesting to mess around with, every run is new. Tactics Ogre LUCT came after, with an intention of following the story of loss of folks in a massive war. Your units died permenantly on going down, and the story adapted based on who was alive. Your choices and actions during fights would determine where the story goes, and in most cases, "you tried" was about the best outcome anyone got. In the remake, they added a whole 4 extra chapters where you go back in time with your order, it's pretty cool. There were two others including my favorite, but this series should be the wet dream of anyone who likes FFT.

Final Fantasy 8 and Tactics were my introduction to the series overall I was so happy you did Squall's origins and very happy you did Ramza's as well. Both, IMO, are the characters to undergo the most growth out of all the protag's in the series as a whole. Thanks for covering both characters.
