FFX is one of the few Final Fantasy games I actually beat as a kid. I went through the whole game, fought BFA and my aeons and was really heartbroken when Yuna and Tidus realized they couldn't be together. I have watched so many speedruns of this game and I still get choked up there at the end. I love this game. Thank you for doing this story summary.

I finally got around to playing ffx on the switch last year. I always heard great things about the game, but I didn't care much for it. I don't know why I didn't like it. Watching this video and hearing the story was enjoyable, but I couldn't say the same about playing the game.

I remember being incredibly touched by Tidus' relationship with his father. For a long time I felt abandoned by and estranged to my father, and hated him for it. 2 decades, later I'm married and face all kinds of problems together with my wife and can so much better relate to Tidus' feelings for Yuna, and the struggle the 2 of them face, and their tragic end (ignoring ffx-2 for a moment) hits a lot closer to home.

Dream Zanarkand is not fake its just the Memory of the Fayth. As Bahamut says "We wished to preserve Zanakrand even if only in a memory. And the fayth were created to battle against sin, which started the tradition of summoners pilgramage. According to the game. Sin wasn't protecting anything it was only destroying and the fayth/aeons were an attempt to stop the calamity. The cycle would continue as long as summoners went on the pilgramage, gathered the aeons and would sacrifice themselves to call the final aeon to defeat sin. That's why when the fayth stop dreaming and are released from their vessels the cycle of sin must end as well, along with dream of the old Zanarkand they upheld. Because no final aeon means no new sin.

@@waterchild_2310 I think you played the game but didn't listen to well. Cause SIN was SUMMONED to fight the Mecha Army. The Yu Yevon made sure summoning arts survived by making a way to stop SIN that also reseeded SIN at the same time. That how it became a religion.

My favourite part was the confrontation with Yunalesca before they fight her. When Yuna decided to bravely end the cycle of suffering setup to last forever instead of consenting to let it continue I fell in love who her. To live with your pain and be free instead of giving up, to do the things nobody else will; risking self-harm to free others in enslavement. That is the definition of valour. These characters should be our role models. There is something to eerily familiar about this scene, in some non-literal context I always felt it is representing a higher truth about our reality that our philosophies and religions have glimpsed at.

I just want to speak on an idea. Square enix should make a prequel to Final Fantasy 10 based off of the story between Auron Jecht and Braska. I feel it would make sense even though we know the story they should tell a good story and get into detail of why it had to be Yuna and we understand fully for ourselves why things turned out the way it did you know why Braska chose the pilgrimage how he and Auron and jecht met and give us a glimpse of what YU YEVON physical body looked like. Braska Auron and Jechts adventure and their experience before they met each other. It would be 🔥🔥🔥

I think this would fall into the same trap as Star Wars: Rogue One - it's an important piece of storytelling... but aside from little details here and there... we know how it ends, so it's hard to really get up for it... especially playing it as a game. At least with the movie, you can be surprised some in how they got to the ending you knew was coming... but with Braska's Pilgrimage, we not only know how it ends, but we also know a lot of those same "little details" as they happened along the way already... so, you're either making a game that's tells a story that's already been told, or you end up retconning something that has been part of the series' lore for over 20 years now. That's a no-win situation.

I did too. I was so attached to everyone in this story when I first played the game as a young person. Everyone in this story made unimaginable sacrifices to have peace in the world. The soundtrack greatly supplements the feeling of meaning in the story. It's hard not to shed tears.

I haven't ever known of a game that explores the issues with faith, organized religion, death, afterlife, the seemingly eternal damnation of humanity, all while also being the B story. At it's core FFX is a love story, but there's so much more going on. But Tidus and Yuna and Auron...that's the real emotional pull of the game. Playing this game as a preteen, and a lifelong closet atheist raised Catholic, It was one of those moments where I realized I wasn't the only one in the world with doubts about the apparent infallible authority of organized religion. But it was never spiteful, and also treated the normal believers of the world with understanding of their worldview. What I thought fascinating about Spira was that "heaven" is a physical place. It's not conjecture where you go after you die. But there is yet, deep unyielding faith in something most people need, because even though you may KNOW you're going to heaven, you still have the knowledge that you, and everyone you love, will live in a world where death and suffering are so widespread people need to make up a story just to live with their reality. Despite being very colorful, tropical, Spira as a world is super dark and heartbreaking. Death and people's fear of it's finality is a major theme of the game as well. When you really dig into the game, it's one of the darkest, saddest worlds you've ever experienced. Just a 1000 year march of constant death and despair, with maybe 100 of those years being peaceful. At first I always thought Seymour was just insane, but after multiple playthroughs, it seemed he legitimately believed that ending the world would be better than an endless history of destruction.

When this game came out, some people complained about it being "too linear". The thing is, every once in awhile, a storyline is so INCREDIBLY captivating and mind-blowing that I want - no, NEED to know what happens next above all. Not walk around an overworld map with no clue where to go next. Exploration and world detail like that is great, but just have it accessible AFTER you beat the game. It's awful when a game comes along with a great story, but then by the time I finish some stupid lame-ass puzzle put in to extend length, or run around in circles all over the map like a chicken without a head, I begin to forget the plot details I HAVE seen, and therefore the impact of learning the next answers are much less meaningful. Simply put, FFX shines in part BECAUSE of its linearity, NOT in spite of it.

Although I loved the game, it ended up being the last FF I played to completion. The things that put me off: The stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid side quests / missions that were long, dull, repetitive... Change to the world map The most ridiculously linear 'exploration' The combat which seemingly encouraged you to quickly swap in all of your characters to share experience. Swapping itself was a good idea though, but sharing XP would have been nice The combat itself was good though. The music was great. For the most part, loved the story. But actually it was FFX-2 that killed it for me. I played it for two hours and despised it. I can't remember why, this is what, 20 years ago?

I kind of disagree there, because negative feelings are IIRC what cause unsent to turn into fiends, and Auron never seemed anywhere near knocking on that door. He's snarky, but not outright dark. I think his duty to Jecht and Braska was his true motivation. Yunalesca was just a symptom of a corrupt system he wanted to destroy.
@bethg9471
2 жыл бұрын
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought this. At first I didn't understand why he was so adamant about pushing Yuna to complete the pilgrimage when he knew what awaited her at the end. But when the truth was revealed about the final summoning it all made sense. Surely keeping his promise to his old friends was a big part of what kept him, but if that was all then he would've kept them from making the journey to try and prevent them from making what he knew was a pointless sacrifice. But he pushed them to make the journey because he believed that if they made the journey to the end and saw with their own eyes about the truth behind their parents' sacrifice (brusca and jecht's) just as he had, they would also turn on yevon and yunalesca and thus break the cycle of the endless pointless sacrifices. That was Auron's ultimate goal, because he tried to do it on his own and failed, but he couldn't move on until he saw to the end of it.

U missed a detail about Tidus' mother. That she cared a lot more about Jecht than him. In fact...she's a groupy of Jecht. Yet Tidus never noticed this fact, and always sides with his mom. Even though Jecht always puts Tidus well being above his wife's.

Late reply, but there is a scene when Tidus talk to Yuna about his mother, and says that a reason he hates his dad is also because when his was around, his mother barely look at him. He even admits that his father cared about him at this moment. It's happening in a flashback where young Tidus ask his mother for attention, and his mother dismissed him, then Jecht says to her to go check him out

@@LysFlowerful was watching a retrospective video yesterday and was arguing about this with someone for a while who said something like. At the end Tidus forgives his abusive father. I was like. They never really tell you he’s abusive. They only show a few short actual memories and Tidus says why he hates him and it’s all whining BS. The rest is in Tidus’ head or in dreams and it’s already well established he hates him. Turns out I was just “excusing child abuse” and didn’t just have a different perspective to think about. Lol.

That high five at the end with his father was showing that he did his father proud. As we all know, his father was a victim of that corrupt system when he became the final aeon under Braska and the new Sin. It took a lot of bravery for Tidus and Yuna to completely demolish that system, even if it resulted in being traitors of Yevon and people attacking them. They didn't want any more people to perish in such a futile way.

The two most memorable moments for me when I first played FFX, was the kiss between Tidus and Yuna and the scene of them around the campfire before embarking through Zanarkand. The song during that whole cutscene of them in the water was too damn beautiful and the graphics was so romantic and touching to match the mood. It was a legit fairytale like scene for me. For the campfire scene ,I saw my brother start a playthrough and this is what caught my attention to the game. When I first got there, my whole thought process was, "I'm finally here! The scene that starts this story!" I was so overwhelmed with emotions to finally get to that point that I saw at the beginning. Because the music was what drew me into the game in the first place. And when I first saw the Heroine, Yuna, she was beautiful. I even ordered a cosplay of Yuna that I wear to conventions because she's still my first love for console games.
