This episode worked, because it wasn't just the final episode of Enterprise. It was the final episode of Star Trek. This was a farewell to Star Trek as a TV show, not simply to one specific show. The entire episode was worth it for the last minute, to have all the Captains of the Enterprise share in the famous words. I brought a tear to my eye then, and it still does. They reveal that Trip’s death was faked so he could join Section 31 as a spy, and tell the story of the NX-01 fighting in the famous Romulan War and starting the federation! Here’s the order of the 9 books if you’re interested: 1. The Good That Men Do 2. Kobayashi Maru 3. Beneath the Raptor’s Wing 4. To Brave the Storm 5. A Choice of Futures 6. Tower of Babel 7. Factually not true. The series didn't start gaining viewership until about mid season 4. Season 1 and 2 suffered TRAUMATIC loss in viewers (it plummeted by several million, A Night In Sickbay nearly killed the show outright.) Season 3 only lost a couple hundred thousand (still not great for a show that only, at that point, had a few million total.) Season 4 started to regain viewership thanks in part to some fresh talent, new show runner, and the series finally finding a proper identity, but for as expensive as the show was, it wasn't going to get a fifth year. The blame still rests largely with Berman and Braga, and Braga himself has admitted that. They needed to fix a large number of the problems they created for themselves from the outset.
@jimtaylor294

Factually true*. To blame ST:E for being aired on a dying network (UPN) is unfair at best. The hostility to the series by Les Monves was the other leading factor. The rest of that is just a mix of over-stating and hyperbolic myth.

It would never happen at this point. You'd have to time jump the series ahead like 15 years (you could maybe get away with saying 10) but you'd have to somehow explain the fact that the actors have all aged with an in-show explanation. Its just been too long to be able to do it in any kind of practical way that makes any modicum of sense from a story standpoint. Plus Bakula is doing NCIS New Orleans now and I dont think Blalock as any interest in coming back to any Trek projects. You could MAYBE get away with a MOVIE where the plot involves bringing the crew back together 15 years after their final mission (ideally the Terra Prime ending and ignore this episode) for one last hurrah but that's never gonna happen anyway.

They could have at least had the audacity to allow Enterprise to finish it's storylines with another season or a feature - length finale like Voyager. Let's hope Star Trek: Discovery ties up the loose ends. It's so disappointing especially because it was Star Trek not any other American series. Shame on Paramount pictures.

I can understand for the sake of historical consistency, it just stuck to Picard, Kirk, Archer, and their Enterprises, but it would've been neat if Sisko, Janeway and the Defiant & Voyager were included.

nepomusik When you ask the average person on the street to name a ship from Star Trek, I'd say it's pretty certain 9 times out of 10 they will answer Enterprise. It's the ship that started it all, and that is identified with the franchise more than any other.

Having been unhappy with most of the first 2 series & starting to get more intrigued during the Xindi arc, it was disappointing to see ST:ENT end after what was its best season with this ordinary episode. There was so much promise shown thanks to Manny Coto & the 5 mini-arcs that helped with NX-01's place in the legacy (eg the Mirror episodes were brilliant). Sad to say this episode played a tired & misplaced Next Gen filler. Cutting away from Archer at the end before his speech was criminal

As a 40 year old Trekkie, I do. Yes, Discovery has it's issues - as does any Trek - but in two series it's already leagues beyond Voyager (not that that is particularly hard, but I digress). Looking forward to series 3! Also the Picard show coming has me intrigued - it'll certainly be interesting to see how much attention they pay to STO's timeline (and if they ignore it, what funky "parallel universe" shenanigans the game will invoke in order to bring elements of the new show to players).

I know right? These days, its goddamn depressing to be a Trekkie. As a child, I thought the future would be exactly that but the older I get the more I see the world going into exactly the opposite direction. Maybe it has to become much worse before it can become better... after all, the Humans of "Star Trek" had to go through a third World War before the United Earth happened (and that only with some outside help).

While I appreciate that this video is 16 years old and technically predates the "reboot" films and other related media, I think it is still worth remarking on the tragedy that the closing, "On Friday, May 13th, 2005, the last episode of Star Trek aired", still holds true.
