Well because Season 1 and most of S2 was very lackluster and lacked a sense of direction. Towards the end of S2 and whole of S3 the show finally found it's path and became amazing - aside from certain really sucky episodes ( _specifically anything involving time travel to Earth's past_ ) - And this finale itself was just kinda bad. There's plenty of ways one can understand why people hate Enterprise. Personally, I love it. When it kicks into gear, it's amazing.

@TheSaneHatter

Technically true, that there were some PT scenes during the meld, but I suspect that a lot of people don't *perceive* it that way, rightly or wrongly. However, be advised that 40 years were not "retconned," exactly: they just set up another parallel universe. (See "Parallels," TNG, Season 7.) ;-)

@@JLvatron the show never really stopped being true star trek. The first 2 seasons were just boring and slow with the exception of a few episodes. Season 3 saved the show. After rewatching the next generation episode it was linked to i saw the plot hole. I also think trips death was a little forced to try to pull at our heart strings. Factually not true. The series didn't start gaining viewership until about mid season 4. Season 1 and 2 suffered TRAUMATIC loss in viewers (it plummeted by several million, A Night In Sickbay nearly killed the show outright.) Season 3 only lost a couple hundred thousand (still not great for a show that only, at that point, had a few million total.) Season 4 started to regain viewership thanks in part to some fresh talent, new show runner, and the series finally finding a proper identity, but for as expensive as the show was, it wasn't going to get a fifth year. The blame still rests largely with Berman and Braga, and Braga himself has admitted that. They needed to fix a large number of the problems they created for themselves from the outset.

Back then I wasn't to sad about the cancellation of the show. I think it mainly had to do with the poor presentation in Germany. The audio dubs were bad and so was the airing on television. Later when I bought the whole series on bluray, I did really enjoy the show, especially the "final" season. It took DS9 and TNG two seasons to get underway properly too. So today I feel, that ENT was cancelled prematurely.

I'm so pissed off they had to end Enterprise like this. This was such a great show with such amazing potential. We could've had several more seasons showing the founding of the Federation plus the First Romulan Wars. That would've been an amazing bit of Trek history to show us. But no, we got a cheap TNG fan service episode that everyone regretted making and just abruptly ended such a unique iteration of the Star Trek franchise. This mistake is what gave rise to the horrible disease that was the Abrams movies, not to mention the 'STD' that Star Trek contracted lol.
@thetransponder7186

Star trek was dead after Voyager and before the abrams movies. The real disease are people like you who keep on dissing the Abrams movies. But since they are such a disease; why did they make 3 of them? I would really love to hear you explanation. I agree with you on the cheap fan service, but when it comes to the Abrams movies they are the best thing that ever happened to star trek. Your kind keeps dissing the Abrams movies while fully well knowing star trek had been dead for a while before. So I will reiterate my question. Since the Abrams movies are such a disease; why did they make 3? On top of that too why do people want a 4th one so bad? I would really love to hear your explanation.

Pretty fuckin sweet way to end the show, if I do say so. Pickard: Space, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship: Enterprise. It's Continuing mission... Kirk: To explore strange new worlds. To seek out new life & new civilizations... Archer: To boldly go where no man has gone before... It's awesome the way they used the original monologue to end the show. The only way to make it a little better, would be to give the last line of Pickard's part to Kirk, but otherwise, brilliant!

@BardBreaker

It would never happen at this point. You'd have to time jump the series ahead like 15 years (you could maybe get away with saying 10) but you'd have to somehow explain the fact that the actors have all aged with an in-show explanation. Its just been too long to be able to do it in any kind of practical way that makes any modicum of sense from a story standpoint. Plus Bakula is doing NCIS New Orleans now and I dont think Blalock as any interest in coming back to any Trek projects. You could MAYBE get away with a MOVIE where the plot involves bringing the crew back together 15 years after their final mission (ideally the Terra Prime ending and ignore this episode) for one last hurrah but that's never gonna happen anyway.

As a child, I thought the future would be exactly that but the older I get the more I see the world going into exactly the opposite direction. @TheDutchGhost

+ChoolyBuzkill I like to imagine that this holodeck scenario was just some bad writer's interpretation after reading about the events on the Enterprise's last mission before returning to Earth to be decommissioned. And that Tucker is pissed that every time he comes to some major meeting, conference or event that the first thing people tell him is "You are commander Tucker? Aren't you suppose to be dead?" after which Tucker clears things up by telling what really happened while silently curing that writer again. And that Shran is also insulted about the nonsense about him disappearing for no reason and then appearing again, have sworn vengeance on the same writer. Anyway I also stop season 4 after watching the two parter. I never watched "These after voyages" after I read a summary of the episode's story.

I watched the episode once. The only time I'd watch it again would be when I start reading the Enterprise-relaunch-Novels (which are based on the premise that the Holodeck-program Riker and Troi are watching here is actually a Section 31-fabrication and that Trip didn't actually die)
