What he is saying around 2:00 is definitely me. I grew up with his music, from about age 6 and I am 31 now...he is by far my favorite musician and composer, and the reason I am a musician myself. The first songs I ever learned on guitar were from Final Fantasy games. I have SO much love for him!!

you as a musician, can you tell me what works inspired him?
@LucidNyte

Marcos Coração Audaz He seems to be inspired by Classical music and Rock. A lot of his orchestrated music is similar to works by Bach and Stravinsky. You can hear this clash of musical influences very clearly in "One Winged Angel". He himself stated that he was influenced by late 60s to early 70s Rock and Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring" when writing One Winged Angel.

I love the humbleness surrounding this guy. He continually thanks the arrangers, as if they're the guys making all this magic! Sure, the arrangements are nice, but the magic is in his compositions. I recently read a biography of Gichin Funakoshi, the man who popularized karate as we know it. I see the same humblness in Uematsu as I saw in Funakoshi. "I just feel lucky to have been born" - I totally get it. We think he makes the music, but as any artist knows, the music just kind of happens to him. He's merely the medium. So, in that sense, he's just as lucky as any of us to be a part of it. Music, karate, love - it's what happens to me when I become open to it. Thanks for this reminder Mr. Uematsu. :)

kirara2516 Nobuo Uematsu composed all music from FF1 through FF9. He also composed some tracks for 10, 11, and 14 as well.

I'm just awestruck by how metal and advante gaarde this arrangement of the main theme of VII is. It really emphasized the tragedy and horror of Aeris' murder which fundamentally shapes the call to action response of the game's third act. bravo!

And like Williams movie scores, it almost feels like the scenes in final fantasy games are composed around uematsus symphonies - I'm certain the final fantasy series would be nowhere near its legendary status without the music elevating it.

I find it abit sad that his music composition style is shifting towards the classical/orchestral type of music. Nothing against those types of music , i listen to them myself but i don't think they suit video games since there are too many different instruments and notes in it which makes the music hard to capture the feeling of the moment in the game as compare to a simple song with a few notes.

iwanfishz9 It would seem to be anticlimactic if, let's say, with FFXV's graphics with the 8 bit sound of FF1, I think? There is more depth in terms of graphics in gaming now than it was in the 8bit era, and I think he is taking advantage of that to convey the layers he wanted us to hear and feel through "orchestral" sounding compositions.

I love orchestras, but you can have super high quality music with lots of depth and layers without going orchestral as well. I appreciate variety, so I do get tired when games or movies sometimes seem to almost always want to use purely an orchestral score over and over. Like I said, I love orchestras, but I also love variety and not limiting your idea of what something can "be" ;) Hell, some of my favorites are when they mix a traditional orchestra with a modern rock band as well as digital/synth thrown in too. Sometimes you just want to hear an FF theme blasting away on hard electric guitar ;)

To be honest,the video game music Uematsu made himself on a computer sounds better than this orchestra here. I think it's a little too overboard and not to my tastes. I prefer Nobuo's original soundtracks.
