Have had much success with letting the wood dry for a couple of weeks and then pouring used vegetable oil on it. Used motor oil also works fine too and if you have neither of those an old tire stuffed inside the pile helps. Use a bit of gas to help light the oil. Once the pile has built good embers I can throw freshly cut logs on it and they burn with no issue. As for the stumps I knock off and scrape as much dirt off as I can and let them age for six or so months and then throw them on a pile that has just bout burned to coals. Stoke them every now and then and they will burn, throw a pine stump in with them and it will burn the rest once it fully catches.

The trick is to make a smaller fire first because its easier to get it good and hot and than slowly build it bigger and bigger as you go. You can also use old diesel but it can be dangerous and spread faster than you anticipate
