This is why houses in the UK are built very solid with thick walls. It's so they can hold a good sized amp collection.

When I bought my first ac30 vr, notice the same issue, lack of volume.I investigate if there is a mod for that. Finally I discover that inside has a trim pot in the power stage. You can turn it to increase the volume almost 50% more.I own two VR . The first one I bought 10 years ago, made that simply mod and work perfect in gigs near to a heavy hitter drummer. So Its safe to do that mod.The second one, did the same .Now I own a ac30 cc2 and the vr can sound as loud. Try It. ! Cheers from Paine, Chile

I've had a Vox AC30 VR about 8 years. It's my main amp. I've used it at gigs all over Europe. If anything, sound guys tend to turn it down, I've never run it flat out, at band practice it's still not full on, and my band is very loud, the bassist often asks me to turn it down, so I'm not sure what u mean by it's not loud, cos mine is. I do not use the overdrive channels, they are too quiet for me personally, but the clean channel is really loud IMHO.

I do love Vox amps. I've gone the usual route - fender, Marshall, Orange, etc, but once I tried my first Vox it just was the sound for me. I've only got a Vox Valvetronix these days (age and poverty) but it's a nice little amp for home use and gives me a taste of the old Vox magic.

Dave, you did not "fail miserably" at sounding like Rory. I could hear it within the first couple of lines and thought " that's nice-very Rory-esque". The tone, the runs, all very much in his style. And most importantly, the heart. Rory played what he was feeling, so it differed every time he played. And you have that gift as well. Nicely done!

I love how dry and clear ACs sound. Perfect for recording. Always find Fender amps kinda untamed in certain frequencies. The chaos can be nice, but for clarity AC seems the way I prefer. Or Mesa Mark series (after the I, which is a bit monotonic and doesn't like playing chords clearly). Didn't know there was a hybrid. Wouldn't know if you didn't tell me. I don't play through them often though. Great demo Dave!

Dave i read somewhere an interview of the sound engineer that mix and collaborate with John with the recording of his solo stuff in 2004 , he said that all inside of emptiness was recorded with teles/Jaguar and Vox ac15/30, did you try some of the riff of that album with this amp and Jaguar or Telecaster, earing the demo with the Jaguar look like the "look on " tone

My Funny AC30 story for the randomers that read the chat: I buy and sell quite a lot of guitars so I go and see many people, And on one such visit I went to pick up a player tele of a guy. I got there and he invited me in and said, it's all there plugged in ready give it a whirl. What I hadn't spotted was the AC30 behind the sofa that he had set CRANKED ready for me to play. (The amp hiss I could hear shouldve gave it away) And I picked up the tele wound it up and hit the first chord and nearly blew his misses clothes off, as well as the contents of his living room out onto the driveway. The guy didnt seem phased by the volume whatsoever and it was rather funny. Anyway, until next time hahaa
