Yes relieved it’s started to flower while there are still some on the Triumph. None of my other varieties are flowering yet 🙄

@joestropicals6760 some of them have small buds developing, they will flower in July which is when most of mine normally flower anyway Joe so I don’t foresee any issues 😁

I’ll definitely get some fruit set, their size and quantity will depend of course on the weather from August to October 🤞

They are such lovely flowers, Brett. Interestingly I found a couple of feijoas near where I’m staying that only just started opening their flowers in the last few days. Although it might be due to their growing conditions as they were in almost complete shade under some large trees. It’s actually the first time I’ve spotted any here. Maybe it’s generally too hot and dry for them here.

Yes I’ve also noticed feijoas in France no further advanced than the UK, quite odd really. I think it’s due to too much heat, poor irrigation and perhaps lack of food 🤔

@@lyonheart84 yeah, I think where they come from is generally cooler than in the med and also gets more rain too. We just need slightly warmer summers and then our climate would be perfect. I guess that’s why they do so well in New Zealand.

@@lyonheart84 Well I got back a couple of hours ago and at least a couple of my pineapple guava flowers have opened while I was away. In fact, they seem to be starting to shrivel up, so must have been open for several days already. I'm hoping I can hand-pollinate a few of the later ones as those first few are past their best now.

@PeterEntwistle it’s quite possible the wind and insects would have done the job for you so they may well set fruit. I have several that clearly won’t be flowering until mid July but they should still produce edible fruit. I look forward to seeing both some holiday videos and garden updates 👍

How easy do they set fruit? When do I know they flower is pollinated? I pollinated them by hand, hope they will set fruit even my named varieties are very small. The flowers are delicious, they taste like bubble gum.

No easy way to know if they are pollinated until the embryo fruits start to swell a bit which may be 2 to 3 weeks or even longer. If the flowers dry up and fall off then obviously you know those ones haven’t set. The flowers don’t excite me much to eat, I only eat the petals occasionally 😁

@MathijsHerremans excellent English to be honest. Yes I knew you meant the petals, I eat them occasionally but I don’t like the spongey texture much haha
