One of the biggest mistakes foreigners make when they start to date a Filipina...is they don't abide by the same rules as they would if they were dating someone from their own country. For instance, they send money to their Filipina girlfriend when they start dating. You would never do that if you were in a relationship with someone from your own country. Find a nice girl from the province and you'll be fine. I met my Filipina wife 17 years ago. She was 20 yrs old at the time and I was 44. She was a simple province girl from a poor family. We have now been married for almost 16 years and have a daughter and live in Canada. Her English is perfect now and she is incredibly gorgeous.

Great advice. Thank you for sharing. The obstacle I am facing post-divorce is that marriage is a mistake in this sense. It is pointing at the moon rather than the moon. As soon as one of you decide that you are pointing at a different moon then it is over. Doesn't matter west or east (how many single moms and annulments in the Philippines?). So I am hoping to find one (and only one) to make a commitment to that is earned every day. Yet here, I can see that the obstacle for her is security. Married = a financial lock so when you die (we all do) then she can be Ok; which is your goal too, so it's not a scam but she can call it early. Say you build a house then it is hers. I'm just not sure I can risk going across the globe only to find myself divorced as an old(er) man.
@JacktheCyberspaceCowboy

@MichaelPrudhomme-u7x - Divorce currently isn't legal here and, even if they do make it legal, it will still be expensive. That said, you usually find love when you least expect it and aren't looking. Try just being friends first. A wife also needs to be a best friend.

@michaelfirestone7440 So very true! A "wandering eye" will not only lose you a good woman here in the Philippines, but there are eyes and ears everywhere. You may think the people around you are 'strangers' when you're alone and flirting, but they may be relatives, or family friends, and word WILL get back to her and she WILL find out. Don't give them a reason to be jealous and then you won't have to worry about drama.

@dutchmanp4859 - I was actually looking for someone much older when I met Sheila. In the Philippines, you have to put your Western views and prejudices aside. Traditional values of honesty, loyalty, and communication between two people is far more important to these women than age, looks, or wealth. Young, handsome, and wealthy, to Filippinas, mean you're more likely to cheat.

Sorry to say this but NO young woman will unconditionally love a 50+ year old man purely out of personality. Nothing wrong with your relationship though, everyone involved is an adult and you both agreed to this. I would say that it's a fair trade that you give her your money and in exchange she gives her youth to you, just keep supporting each other til the very end, whatever makes you feel good. Just accept this cold hard truth and make each other contented in your own personal ways.

@jamesrose7281 - Well, I'm sorry to say that you, my friend, will be a sad and lonely man for a very long time. While these Filippinas do exist (mainly in the provinces) many are not attracted to foreigners because of "stories" they have heard. You have to have a lot of patience, cultural understanding, personal respect, honesty, and positive career motivation to convince these girls to even be interested in you. To add tonthat a particular physical desire when their peers are saying the complete opposite will severely limit your choices. I'm not sure of your age, but you need to realize that younger women are going to be far more influenced by peer pressure and cultural icons than by YOUR particular "wants." Me? I wasn't looking for a particular type, other than loyal, honest, and ambitious. I was actually looking for someone in the 40+ range and didn't care if they had kids, as long as they had a degree or a career. I began by being a friend first, advising only when asked, and not even looking for a date. I wanted to travel first and check out different places before settling down. By not having preconceived notions of physical appearance, I was able to befriend many Filippinas and fully expected to meet them all, just for coffee and a chat. But, 'good' Filippinas get snatched up rapidly by "good" men who are honest, loyal, kind, and ACTUALLY THERE. I simply asked one to be my tour guide, with no expectations of anything else. The fact that she met your "criteria" (and mine) was simply a bonus to me. I did NOT think our age-gap would actually work. But it has. She wasn't looking forn"well-off" or 'wealthy." She's turned down dozens of offers from men who are younger, wealthier, and better-looking than me. What she sees with me is that I; 1.) Am honest with her; 2.) That I am loyal and don't have a wandering eye; 3.) That I communicate with her (I tell her where I am and what I am doing at all times and she does the same); 4.) I respect her and her opinions, but I show leadership in that I take final responsibility for my actions and admit when I am wrong and, lastly; 5.) I am not abusive - physically, verbally, or mentally. I do my best to please her, not keep her under my thumb. I've earned her trust and she's earned mine. I let her make mistakes and have shown her how to learn from those mistakes. If you can find a Filippina that is all these things AND reasonably attractive to you, you have a gem. Oh, and everyone puts on weight as they age, even "skinny" women. You're looking for either a unicorn or a narcissist as a trophy-wife. I guarantee that you will never be happy because you will be physically and verbally abusive, or you will be angry because she spends more time at the gym than she does with you.
