I lived in Rochester for almost 20 years. This one one of my favorite place to go for a walk, especially in the fall. So peaceful so many interesting nooks. Nice tour. Brought back some great walks.

Planning to visit Rochester Aug. 16th and hadn't planned on visiting this cemetery until I watched your video. I like your sense of humor and what you notice. Detroit has a similar very old cemetery, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elmwood_Cemetery_(Detroit)--with an Olmsted design--the Mt. Hope crematorium and the Elmwood entry gate look almost identical. I'll be watching your other Rochester videos before we head out.

Thank you for a very interesting video. I always enjoy videos exploring old cemetery. They teach us a lot about urban cemetery design, theology, how we view death, history of the times and that our lives today in most cases outside of our technologies are basically the same.

The seemingly small treads of the stairs have over time slid on top of each other from the ground shifting toward them. The stairs need to be dug up and realigned. I enjoyed the tour - thank you

A lot of those trees were ornamental trees planted by the family of the deceased....fast forward a couple centuries and cemeteries contain a huge portion of the old growth trees remaining in the Northeast after the rest were cut down for lumber

The monument damage is likely the cause of trees falling on them and not vandalism. If no family survive to fix the monument, NY State law puts the ownership in the hands of the cemetery who don't have the funds to fix the damage.

The cemetery opened in 1838. Frederick Olmsted was born in 1822. I don’t think he was old enough to design it.

I've heard old "rumors" of a secret hidden tunnel that the illuminati used from one of the mosoleums, but as far as I know that's just a legend. It could be possible, Rochester has a long history and definitely a few tunnels.
