Very nice. As I enjoyed nature Tom's Sawyer's Island was my favorite place in the park. Allow me to add to this interesting segment with some of my childhood memories not mentioned and connected with the islands earliest days. 1. Fort Wilderness had a show. Actors dressed as Indians would attack the fort by canoe. The costumed solders (8:59) would sound an alarm and close the doors of the fort. We children quick enough could climb into the fort towers and use the stationary rifles to shoot at the attacking actors. The cannon would fire at the INDIANS not the sailing ship and the Indian dressed actors would flee in their canoes. The Columbia might also have fired at them. Later they just removed the Indian actors. This could explain why Fort Wilderness and the Columbia seen to fire at each other per this segment's description. Without the Indians they might have called it a "salute" seeing as Fort Wilderness and the Columbia are on the SAME side - right? Part of the show is missing. 2. Children could escape the fort using a tunnel. At number 4:51 look past the trash can that says "Push" and see a door. Behind that door was a short ladder. Going down this you could follow the tunnel to the right. It would exit at the water's edge. 3. Lastly - though not about the island but Sleeping Beauty's Castle. Inside the castle entrance was a walk-through Sleeping Beauty diorama. Starting at ground level it went up then back down to an exit. At the top of the stairs was a door propped open by a chair. Being a curious and adventurous youth I went through that door and found myself on top of the "castle." A flat white roof with air conditioners working away. I looked over the side of the castle and by the drawbridge was a worker who yelled "Get off that roof!" thus I have the unusual privilege of saying I have been atop Sleeping Beauty's Castle where few have gone :)

THANK YOU so much for sharing! We LOVE Tom Sawyer's Island! I ran across that in my research, even some Disneyland TV episode footage of the "attack" on the fort. I wish the fort was still open! But I am glad the neighboring village is friendly today- a much improve perspective. It was really neat though how they built the fort and the huge logs they used. I also read about how some injuries happened with the tower guns to some youngsters hands- ouch! When I see the amazing walkthrough fort of Disneyland Paris, I get so jealous!

This was GREAT...... One of the BEST videos about "Tom Sawyers Island." At 7:20 you show the fence that my brother and I would sneak around and walk to the burring log cabin and wave at people on the Mark Twain...... Ah, the good old days. Thanks for posting....

Those are some pretty wonderful memories. I loved playing Huck, Tom and Joe Harper as a kiddo. Thanks for the great comment! Oh, and very creative game title! 😄
