Minakari is one of the most magnificent handicrafts of Iran. The art of painting and designing the surface of metals such as: gold, silver and copper by glazing colors and fire in the furnace (sometimes it is also done on glass or ceramics). According to orientalist, Arthur Pope, enameling dates back to 1500 BC. Christ arrives, its work on metal appeared in 400-600 BC. Enamel work is usually done on various dishes such as vases and plates, photo frames, doors and windows of shrines, ornaments, small decorative objects and combined with inlays, miniatures, jewelry making and other types of art. Different types of colors used in enamel work are obtained from plants, minerals and iron ore. Today, chemical dyes are often used. Artisans use gold, copper and tin in combination with chemicals to make red, green, yellow colors. Mina, which means heaven in Persian, is a glass coating that is fixed by heat on various metals. Enamel handicrafts are available in different colors such as: azure blue, reddish purple, green, yellow, turquoise, gold and black. But Isfahan enamels are usually known for their blue, azure and turquoise colors. Regarding the history of enamel art in Iran, it goes back to the Parthian and Sassanid period.
